ok, so far so good, i've managed to actually get the keyboard to work however when i open a synth i not only get whatever sound i want (organ, strings etc.) but i also get a drum sound, how do i get rid of that? like i said i'm not a synth guy but i do like adding piano and things.
again, thanks so much

You probably have Auto-Echo enabled on a drum track.  Everything you play on the keyboard will get echoed out to the track with auto-echo enabled.

Señor Larry is muy correcto: sounds like an echo issue.

Here is what I do: set Preferences to echo the currently selected track.  I don't turn echo on manually except for audio tracks receiving external audio input.

In other words, once I set Preferences to echo the currently selected track, then I turn echo on whatever tracks are receiving EXTERNAL synth input.  (Soft synths don't need this.)  I also use Shift+Record to Arm and Echo any track I am recording with a microphone.  (Then Shift+Arm again to turn off Record and Echo when done.)

So, Preferences to echo current track.  Turn echo off on other tracks.  If you can't hear an external audio input, manually turn echo on on that audio track.

To me, this is one of the clunkiest and most inconvenient aspects of Sonar, but maybe it is the same with other DAWs.
