Nice little software package with many cool things.... But it's got some growing up to do about output assigns...

I've got my discrete outputs set for everything except of course the cymbals which it lumps into a stereo "Overheads" (I guess they are using that for meaning mostly cymbals wih some kit bleed, but then there's no discrete control of cymbal volumes other than MIDI velocity of the note....

Is there some way to adjust the positions of the cymbals that I haven't found?

Thanks...
Keni

Yes, go to the edit page of AD, click on the cymbal and there you can change the pan in the overhead and room mics.

Thanks Gustabo...

I looked there so I must have missed seeing it... Then again a few controls don't have labels or pop ups and are very dark/hard to see on my screen...

I'll look again...

Unless you mean the 2 knobs left/right of the cymbal image that are labelled Overhead and Room? I thought those to be volume...

those are volumes, but the slider things above them are the pans for both room and OH.  But since you have both left and right channels of both room and overheads, I just set my overheads panned 30-40 off center respectively within sonar and that will give you a very good stereo spread

Keni - I've been adjusting to it as well - with the overheads instead of a dedicated output per piece. But it's totally configurable, way more configurable than Session Drummer for example.

The pan control looks weird which is why you probably missed it. The pan looks full from left to right but you can drag on side of it to the other and get a little dot and just move that dot to where you want.

Thanks Sven... The areas surrounding it are very dark... I thought I saw one vertical fader on the left of it... I'll look again an a few minutes when I get back into the studio...

Thanks for sticking with me...

Thanks Guys...

I've got it now... It's the way they maple meant track width with pan that confused my eye...

This allows for he use of stereo samples, but also can make it more difficult to position the individual kit pieces. I narroe the width of the cymbal so that I could move it further left then the stereo sample has it placed... And it relocates, but sounds a bit odd blending back into the kit...

So for the moment, I'm leaving the cymbals the way they have them sample-based locations... I can live with that for now... But at least I understand the plugin better... Now what is grow very dark slider within the frame?

yes, but I would have liked the ability to output cymbals individually....gaining more control over how I mix.
In my view, this is a shortcoming of the AD2 program.

This is one of my issues with AD...

I'm not comfortable with their system (Gui) handling of cymbals.

Both the panning and the width/location are difficult to set... Though the tools are there

As the samples appear to be stereo samples, but sound as though they are recorded in relative position to the other pieces. Trying to place a cymbal's focus point as desired has been very hard.

I think I would prefer the cymbal's mic'd without relative position (centered stereo), then have them appear with individual faders/width/pan as he drum pieces do.

I understand the realism of recording (sampling) all the cymbal's to a common set of overheads, but as we each find different needs, it makes adjusting personal preferences much harder...

Not a deal breaker, but not what I would optimally prefer...
