Hey, guys...

What's the best way to creatively edit audio in Sonar 8???

Is there a way to create pitch(or whatever) envelopes and such on an audio track so as to be able to creatively twist up your audio as it plays.

Is there also a quick destructive method to doing this?

V-Vocal doesn't seem suitable for doing this to an audio file? Not from what I've managed so far anyway.

Also, I find if I try to apply audio effects directly to an audio file, I find auditioning, or closing the audition rather seems to crash Sonar completely.

Cubase seemed to have a very smooth seemless way of editing audio (and midi), I find Sonar 8 a bit clunky, but it's what I have and what I work with, though I've gotten more used to it over time, I still find a lot of tasks seem not to easy to figure out how to achieve or just carry out, such as this audio editing.

When I double click to open an audio file, there seems little I'm able to do to edit it from within that window, nothing I click seems to do anything.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Double clicking an audio file is useless. At least as far as I've seen. The groove clip window thing seems redundant to me. You can set it up to not do anything though. (which is what I prefer).
Previous versions used to allow audio editing this way but that is long gone.

You edit audio where it sits if that makes sense. (zooming in and out).

Yes, you can change the pitch of audio. Might not sound too good though and it's a little convoluted. right click on the clip and find the raise/lower pitch thingy.
No pitch envelopes.

Thanks guys, mega appreciated.

jerrypit, I believe I already have this wonderful whacky little vst in my plugins list! Used it to gate a choir sample once!

It was the very first thing that threw me off with Sonar as I too was used to Wave Lab ( same as Cubase) and it's powerful audio editing.  You click a track and there's no wave editing.??
Sonar does zero. What you have to do is use the "Tool" menu and the highlighted track will open in a separate wave editing program.
I think most use Abilton Live for real time creative stuff. Sonar is just a sequencer and multi track tape deck with a lot of menu's.
