I used to use the PC keyboard to control the transport when recording my guitar and bass tracks, but now I use my VS-20 for that. It's just a pity there's no button on it for the keystroke I use most - Ctr+Z

For mixing, I use a combination of the mouse and the VS-20 faders; I rarely use the keyboard.

So for me, a degree of customisation would be cool.

i still think changing the ui, and as a side effect introducing a new and different, more rigid, less flexible workflow, isn't a good thing

See that's where I disagree. Screensets have made for a more flexible workflow for me. I can now effectively have ten versions of the same project open and all can be recalled instantly. X1 is far quicker to work in than previous versions as far as I'm concerned. YMMV of course.

Take those old-fashioned multi-level menus AWAY

I work in software development. Usability testing has shown again and again that this is the most hated UI workflow.

Yes, Notecrusher... exactly my feeling.....

... that's something I definitely find NOT acceptable for a modern DAW...

I won't accept any excuses from Cakewalk for this step back... never.... unless they fix it... of course..!

...yes, screensets are useful, and you can have more versions of the same project open...

...but the problem here concerns the workflow WITHIN the project windows themselves.... thus, in OUR personal view of course, now what you get in the end is instead ten SLOWER versions of the same project open...

I think new nice additions should have been merged with well consolidated workflow system, without "erasing" legendary (and true...) SONAR's flexibility.... that's the main point, in my opinion...

I see no use for a record or play button. Please remove for X2.

I do think people who feel they prefer the mouse are cursing themselves to a generally slow workflow that a bit of learning keyboard shortcuts could radically improve. That's a general point about using computers, not specific to Sonar, though Sonar is an application where learning the shortcuts is an immense benefit. I think was true even prior to X1, when there were a lot more things as top level clickable buttons.

The problem with the computer keyboard is that it's on the far side of my controller keyboard and uncomfortable to reach.   That's why I prefer the mouse.

"Gapless" audio like Ableton- the ability to throw in FX without glitches which make me thinnk my monitor tweeters are going to explode.

FX bin: All instead of custom by default.

I wish all VST's could react like the prochannel; they are "off" until a dial is moved in which case they become active. Very classy.
