OK, can't find anything much other than the info below amongst my scribbly notes.
I'd had trouble with a couple of plugins, because both the 64bit and 32bit plugs were being scanned from Sonar x64.
All I did, was rearrange my VSTplugins/folders, so that when running Sonar x64, it could not also see any 32bit plugin where there was a 64bit version. The kind of thing you'd think would be obvious ... but not if you don't know !. And when I started out, I didn't know, and this happens to a lot of people (can tell by the forum posts about it).
Prior to that I'd had all sorts of weird things happen, because Sonar x64 could see some 32bit plugins where there was also a 64bit version.
What alerted me to it was GuitarRig 4 - I had problems trying to get GR4 automation working in Sonar x64, and some other post pointed me to check that I had the 64 bit version of GR4 loaded. Much to my surprise, I found the 32bit plug ALSO in the VST scan path for my 64bit plugs, and the 32bit loaded by default.
Now, what got me is, you'd think that a 32bit plugin loaded in 64bit Sonar would be obvious from the interface ... bitbridged ???
Well, the GR4 interface did not appear bridged, and there was no bitbridge loaded. Only by checking the program path in the PluginManager showed it was loading the 32bit plug. Go figure ???.
I found that 32/64bit conflicts were causing me some problems with other plugins too ... as soon as I got rid of ALL the 32/64 conflicts, my whole system started running beautifully compared to before.
So double and triple check that where you have a 64bit plugin, the 32bit version of the same plugin is not in the VST scan path of Sonar x64. If you've got a lot of plugs, it can be very easy to miss one or two.
It took me a while to get mine all sorted :-)
The only other thing that comes to mind is the possibiity of having the "Enable MIDI out" selected when you load Rapture ?.
I've just tested Rapture 64bit in both 8.5.3 and X1, multiple instances (5), loaded up with patches from the "Film Score" pack and hammered it for about 15 minutes solid with no problems. Since the 1.22 update I don't think Rapture has ever crashed on me.
So it can work ... touch wood :-)
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers - Cliff
