How do you let X1 find your interface at startup after you have deleted the aud ini file? When I delete the file, the Saffire 6 doesn't show up at all in Sonar, even when I keep disconnecting and re-connecting it.

Because X1 can't operate without an aud.ini file it will make a new one. While its doing that it will try to profile any audio interface it finds. I am surprised it doesn't see your Saffire. That is odd. It could be that you have another interface on your system. It could be the on board sound chip on your MB. Before you do the delete thing disable that chip in the bios. After you get everything up and running you can re-enable it if you wish.

Over all this should not be happening to you. Normally Sonar will work with any audio interface on your system. It really is simple usually. Also think about this in all the demo songs CW has bundled throughout the  years none of them were produced using your audio card. Yet they will play just find on any machine with Sonar on it. They do on mine and I know my interface is different.

Does the Saffire show up in Windows-Device Manager? It has to be there before Sonar will see it.

If Windows sees it, then Sonar should see it. Go through the audio preferences and make sure its selected. If its not listed there, then reinstall the Saffire drivers. You might be getting closer now believe it or not.

I don't think I am.... Now the Saffire does show up in Sonar and in audio devices, but I have to reset config to defaults to get the aud ini file back. (and this doesn't fix the problem)

So you don't get the error in a new project, only the ones that you used the Emu on? What format did you save them in (CWP or CWB)?

In the old project, you've deleted all references to the Emu in the synth rack and in the audio and midi preferences, right?

We need to ensure we understand the results of our suggestions so we can try to decipher what's going on.

Have you tried one of the old Emu projects using the onboard sound instead of the Saffire? If so, did you get then same error message?

Sorry about the late reply, they have been saved as CWP files, and yes I only have the problem on old projects that were not started with the Saffire 6. There is indeed no mention of the E-MU anywhere in the project/s, and if I try to playback with the onboard sound card, it is the same problem but instead of 'audio record device', the error says 'audio playback device' (but the rest of the error message is the same as the other one.)

Apparently the problem is in the older project files. Did you try opening one in safe mode? (Hold down the Shift key while clicking on File-Open). That will allow you to open the project without any plug-ins.

If that doesn't work, try copying the tracks from one of them to a new project and see if that helps.

This is what I have been trying to do, but I don't know how to copy the data from one project to another. I can only seem to copy individual clips.

You can copy the tracks by pressing CTRL-A, then CTRL-C then open a new project and enter CTRL-V. You'll still have to add any softsynths manually though.

Opening in Safe Mode didn't help?

When I try to copy the tracks to a new project it is telling me that the audio format doesn't match new project sample rate even though they are the same... And no safe mode didn't make a difference unfortunately.
