Why can't I get this to work out?  Am I missing something?

Installed the correct drivers (WIN 7 64bit) for FA66.
Opened up SONAR X1 and went to prefences, Audio, Devices.  See all the FA66 choices and ASIO...

Sorry about being so confusing, but all I want to do is plug my guitar into the interface and hear my guitar and the tracks (other audio and some midi tracks) on sonar through my computer speakers.

Someone walk me throught this, please.  Greatly appreciated.

Normally I will go into Sonar with something like this and eliminate all but 1 input and output...make sure your device is manually set to the same bit rate in Sonar...the fa-66 has a couple of buttons on the front that control something like software monitoring I don't remember (I have one but only use it as a firwire midi input)...I seem to remember that one of those can disengage the audio...

Deep breaths...slow down...on top of the FA-66 it actually has a drawing of the signal chain...

In order to hear it through your computer speakers they will have to be plugged in to the FA-66...here's the deal with ASIO...you can only use ONE asio device at a time so if that;s the driver you are using, it ill be the only device Sonar can use...meaning your speakers need to be plugged into it, either through the headphone jack on front or the outputs on back...DONT use the RCA's since if I am not mistaken they are input...

Forgetting the guitar for a moment can you hear your other tracks when you hit play?

STinGA,

Yes I can hear the other tracks. Even MIDI is fine.
But Im not even getting a spike on the meter for sound in Sonar X1 when the guitar is in. No audio going in.

Could I use something other than ASIO? What is the best driver mode to use?

Under Edit/Preferences/Audio what do you have the Record and Playback settings set to?
Also you're basically trying to use 2 interfaces. The FA-66 and the lame ass on-board soundcard.
That alone is just asking for loads of problems.
Try the WDM/KS driver and run the wave profiler.

But the easiest cheapest way is to disable the on-board card and just use the 66 with either headphones or save some $$ and buy a set of powered/active reference monitors.

Mike

PS. ASIO only works with one soundcard at a time. It's an ASIO limitation not Sonar. WDM can use two but you're still asking for more trouble then play-time.

Mike,

You were so right on it all...  I disabled the soundcard and went through my monitors.  Dummy me.  I know the analog day but a little confused with the digtal day.  Thank you again.

Insert an Audio track if you don't have one already
Set the track's input to a mono input on the FA66, for example, Input 1/L if that's what the guitar is plugged into.
Turn on Input Echo on the track (the button next to the record button)
Play the guitar

You should hear the guitar. If not, turn the sensitivity up since guitars have a very low level output unless plugged into a stomp box or a preamp.

You're welcome.
Now quit slacking off and get back to making music.
