I uninstalled it and reinstalled it when I open Sonar and try to insert the plugin it tries to tell me that I haven't installed a license file and to choose select to locate the license key file thingy but it never loads properly so I can click on settings to do that.

Go to Steven Slate support, and fill out a ticket,Allistair there is very helpfull, and will work out what you are doing wrong.

I have SSD4 Platinum, and with that one,you MUST put your licence file in the same folder as the Drum Audio in Windows, for instance I unpacked the .rar's,to my downloads area, and in there is a folder called SSD Library,I just copied and pasted the license file to THAT folder.

Yes it is a Drum Soft Synth VST.

You need to download your licence file from your Steven Slate account which you would have created when you bought it.  From there you copy the file (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins)

I copied mine to both just to make sure so it's also in (C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins)

The file is an SLC file and should say, ssd_SSD 4_and then your email address.

Once you've done that, rescan your vst's and you should be good to go.

I installed the program properly it will load in reaper just not with sonar. I called in and was told to uninstall and reinstall sonar and see if that works. I will try this later on tonight I have to get somewhere. Thanks for your posts

So the licence files are in sonars vst folder?
Did you rescan your vst folder? Try a scan of either existing plug ins or failed plug ins?
Seems a bit drastic that you should have to reinstall sonar and you may find you still have the problem.

You open slate then hit settings in Ssd4 essential and find the file its a .slc file that you download from the page they send you to for downloading it. The reinstallation is underway now and I have yet to install x1c upgrade but testing the SSD$ essential seems to work fine now. Will let you know once I have the whole thing reinstalled.

all's well that ends well and as a side benefit I cleaned out my steinberg VST file of a lot of free usless synths to get under the 255 mark and also defragged my HD so its purring like a kitten now.
