I use the iPod app. Works great, and it's very handy when you are not right in front of the PC.
Useful for guerilla recording too.

The iPad app also looks great, but IMHO is not in the same league as an MCU or similar for a main DAW controller. Still for the price is a great bang for the buck (if you already have the iPad ;) )

Understand.  I started looking for a replacement for my Tranzport, since they are out of production (though mine is still running strong).  My recording room is on a different floor from the control room, so I mainly need something to control the Transport in Sonar, when I don't have my engineer (aka fiance) present.  Though, as mentioned in an earlier post, I've customized my Tranzport interface quite a bit (metronome control on the fly, track layer control, multiple track cloning and archiving, for example).  Without the Tranzport, I'd have no easy options.  So, the iPad Ap fills that gap.  Not in the same league as an MCU, but a different mission requirement.  And for less than a glass of wine at a good restaurant...

And you wonder why Frontier dropped the Tranzport line.  Seems to me that all the small controllers may be a thing of the past if this application works.

I was wondering if an app with all of your hot keys mapped to buttons would work?

Yeah, sounds entirely feasible.  I've noted the App I mentioned above has some spare buttons which I suspect are programmable (need to find time to play with this).  And if one is willing to develop the application and interface, nearly anything is possible.  The irony here is that it takes a Mac to do that...

on iTunes :)
here's the link to their site:

it seems they updated the product line, and new products only work with IOS > 4.2.. so no Ipod.

the "old" products are AC-7 Pro and AC-7 DAW. Don't know if they are still available on iTunes tho.

Definitely looks impressive - but keep us posted to its functionality (problem free?)
