Another small clue.  From the desktop PC (that's the one I'm having trouble with), when I hit various buttons on AC-7, I get a MIDI signals showing up on channel 1 of the rtpMIDI Sonar input as notes in track view.  This behavior does not show up when using the laptop (the one that works fine with AC-7).  Could it be, that the desktop Sonar believes that AC-7 is a normal instrument and keeps the control surface connection request from getting to it?  Still digging...Stay tuned.

Problem Fixed!

Stop Sonar

Go to C:Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Sonar X1 Producer folder with Windows Explorer and delete (or rename if you're the cautious type) ctrlsurface.dat and ttseq.ini.

Restart Sonar, select your MIDI inputs and outputs, create a Mackie control surface and hit reset on the AC-7.

This worked for me.  Apparently the ctrlsurface.dat file (or maybe ttseq.ini) was corrupted.  Sonar apparently creates these two files if they are not found at Sonar startup time.  I'm not sure why our good pals at Cakewalk haven't chimed in here because I found this fix in the AC-7 forum (saitara.freeforums.org/notconnecting-t99.html) and the answer above originated from Cakewalk support.  You'd think the support engineers would troll their own forum, but they're probably pretty busy.

Been using V-Control Pro.

I have not got confirmation from the developer if you works in Sonar X1 yet or not, its a amazing piece of software. If it doesn't have Sonar support yet (which is unclear, the site says and much more under compatible daws) I would push to get this controller since there is windows support. For studio one its a dream come true for my rig!

Very cool, thanks for sharing Scott.  This is the kind of stuff I was referring to in another thread about extending the use of your DAW with an iPad.

There were some cool announcements concerning the iPad at NAMM too.  I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for tablet control of DAW...

Wow...I bought this program a long time ago and could never get it to work with SONAR X1 or SONAR 8.5. It works fine with all other DAWs. Can't wait to get home to try this fix out.

Thanks for sharing the tip.

What I want to know is how I can rip DVDs to my iPad. Anybody seen any links?

There are several little applications, both for PC or Mac - Xilisoft makes good apps, for converting , synchronising, getting into filesystem etc.

I had a little trouble setting it up in Sonar X1 due to my impatience... This App rocks on my new iPad3 Fast response to all parameters. A very impressive fully functional wireless remote for Sonar X1. Cheers, Shogun
