Hello folks!

Before i decribe my problem, i want to introduce myself.
My name is Dirk, iam 42 years old and i come from Germany or rather Mönchengladbach. For the soccer fans. ;-)

I use Sonar now for 4 years and the problem exists since i use it. Don't ask me  why i pose the question now. I love Sonar. Before i had Cubase. :-)

Three weeks ago i bought a new pc and now iam completly on 64 bit.  The BitBridge runs also very good. With a  few exceptions, but i can live with it.

The problem is the plug in manager. I've got about 350 instruments and i can see them all in the manager as registered. But when i organize them in a layout some disappear.  As I started to organize them they function perfect. But the more plug ins i paste, as much more disappear. I have divided the top folder in subfolders and i did the update to Sonar 7.02.
The commercial software like Komplete 5, EZ Drummer, Predator, Blue, U-he Ace/Diva, impOSCar, Analog Laboratory and Synplant runs perfect. And all my effects too (about 250).  Only the instruments annoy me. :-(
Iam very happy with Sonar, but this problem is bugging me. 
Sonar is not so common in Germany. So I put the question to you. What am I doing wrong?

 Dirk, Are you saving the setup in the plugin manager after you get the way you want it? You need to give it a name and click Save. Then, you want to be sure you have the name you saved selected in Plugin Manager, then you should see all the VSTi and FX just the way you arranged them. Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious. Maybe I don't understand your problem. If this doesn't solve your problem, please try to describe it again.

Sorry. My English. The plug ins appears in the layout, but when i want to insert the plug into the midi track, then it's missing.  
I save my setup after every change and of course i give it a name.

My first thought was that it might be too many instruments plug ins and Sonar therefore no longer recognizes some plug ins.

My work is calling. :-)

You will have a similar problem if you exceed the maximum number of plugins. The easy test to see if that's your problem is to temporarily move some plugins out of the vstplugins folder and rescan.

I used to run into this issue until I did some housecleaning and got rid of all the plugins I'd never used. I still keep them in a folder (out of the vst search paths) just in case I ever want to revisit them.

It works. I have said goodbye to 30 VST's and now i can insert important plug ins, which where missing.  There are still some missing, but somehow it's now twice the fun to delete mediocre plug-ins which has not been properly tested. 

Are there exact numbers existing how many plug-ins Sonar can handle?

Anyway. You have eliminated my frustration. And somehow I feel relieved.

The limitation is due to the maximum number of entries Windows supports in a context menu, so the actual number varies according to how you have your plugins organized. Creating subdirectories beneath the vstplugins folder results in nested context menus, which may increase the limit. It certainly makes the menus easier to navigate.

BTW, one of the best improvements they made in X1 was doing away with Windows context menus for plugin selection and implementing a separate browser window.
