In an effort of trying to finish making my new PC not require anything that was unique to my old PC (as in have all of the same things but with with the bonus of running a million times better ) one of the stumbling blocks is the ACT data I created for my Axiom 49. I created a patch that uses the transport controls rather than the drum pads and gave it a name.
I have looked everywhere for the saved patch and I cannot find it.
 
So, just to be clear, you click on the Controller/Surface Properties button and in the Presets field there are a bunch of keyboards/controllers listed. Well I saved a patch in there and I'd really like to know where that patch is stored.
 
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Specifically, the ACT data lives at...

C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\ACT Data

Just replace Scott with your own Windows username.

However, you're looking for a preset, so... you need to use th Cakewalk Plug-in Manager to export the preset and then import it again.

1. Choose Utilities > Cakewalk Plug-in Manager
2. In the Plug-in Categories, select Control Surfaces
3. In the Registered Plug-ins list, choose the plug-in containing your preset.
4. Click the Export button in the Cakewalk Plug-in Presets section of the dialog box.

Then just do the same but use Import instead on the new PC.

All Cakewalk presets for plugins as well as control surfaces saved from SONAR are stored in the registry (potentially with a link back to a file if its large.

You can access these presets and even back them up to files using the Cakewalk Plugin Manager. To access the ACT presets, load plugin manager, then click on Control Surfaces in the left pane and then "ACT Midi controller" on the right. Then click the Manage button to get to the presets, or Import/Export to load or save to file for backup. 

You can use this to transfer presets across  different machines.

Well I'll give the kudos to Noel as his instructions were totally spot on and Scott comes a gallant second due to mentioning plug-ins which were not part of the deal .

All I can say there is a big difference to those of us who scrape by making music with Sonar and those who know the real ins and outs.
I can't wait for X2 to add to my lack of knowledge .


While I'm here, I have to mention that I've just installed Sonar on my new beast of an i7 computer and it went really well. It also goes really well compared to my old Q6600.

And straight after I wrote this the combination of Sonar and Reason going into my Balance crashed so bad I had to turn the PC off at the wall as it wouldn't shut down.
In case anyone is interested I was simply changing a patch in Rapture and everything just locked up.
Nice to see that life carries on like before....

Make sure they're both not using ASIO as the driver mode. ASIO doesn't like to share. That could be the problem. Just a guess though...

Make sure they're both not using ASIO as the driver mode. ASIO doesn't like to share. That could be the problem. Just a guess though...

If I'm just using Reason I use the Balance ASIO drivers, if I'm using Sonar and Reason I use ASIO4ALL as I can edit the latency in Sonar - the Balance ASIO drivers aren't editable in Sonar. I have become fairly adept at messing around with ASIO due to the Balance ASIO drivers not playing nice with programs other than Reason.
I can also do a set up where I use ASIO4ALL and Balance ASIO at the same time so that I can use the standalone version of Pod Farm 2.5 (without my UX1 being plugged in) routed to either Sonar, Reason, or Sonar/Reason rewired.
 
There was a cheap upgrade to the full version of Rapture a little while back and those who bought it found it likes to kill Sonar when going through the patches. I'd like to think it was Rapture that caused the crash but I'm keeping an open mind .

How about a universal presets export/import function as part of a CW products' BACKUP utility?

How about a major warning for users, using BIG fonts, about the need to do the export thing? First line in readme file, Required read confirmation.

Took more than an hour for me to export and import all presets.

it's not bad IF , both things are set up correctly asio wise, same bitrate and Hz etc. and leaving the realtek etc as your default system card. so when you flick (alt / tab) between things you don't get volume gain / bit rate changes .e.g. if a youtube video is on a browser etc.

can't speak for the balance, I have 3 other interfaces that I've used that way

Grum, it's odd if your system is locking up like that.  from running a few cards on one machine,  normally you can't access the asio panel IF any other non-balance inputs / outputs are enabled audio wise (and perhaps asio 4 all if it's in your task bar etc).


remember both programs have "share in background" setting for the audio also.. so it'll play the audio even when the parent window (reason) isn't the main focus.


things like having 1 spdif input into another card used to chuck a wobbly on a machine when the timing went out and it'd cause a BSOD with drivers, if your using spdif etc. to a point where analog in/out stopped that issue, obv. not as clean a signal.
