When I am ready to convert midi to audio, I generally bounce the track to audio and archive the midi tracks,

I'm with Mr Jonesy, why not just freeze?

One reason is that freezing has limited what FX I can apply to a track after the freeze.  A bounce makes it a brand new audio track and all options are now open to me in regards to FX and envelopes.

Quite often, I don't archive the midi and synth..... I delete them when the audio sounds like I want. Yeah I know.... I can't go back and edit something..... but that's the way I work. Sometimes I kick myself but mostly, I like the result before I hit delete and never look back.

You may find it useful to save the project after you do your deleting under a new name. This will let you revisit it if you need to.

I don't add FX to an unfrozen track from a synth. FX comes after the freeze and all other edits that are appropriate for audio if needed. I did run into a PC issue because as you all know PC is on all audio channels. Before CW fixed it PC was unavailable after a freeze. This was an issue for me then they remove that problem. So now I can continue as before.

do you see this on all mono synth outs?

I think so. It's definitely a problem with Superior Drummer, Kontakt and SampleTank. Those are the ones that I'm most likely to take a mono out from. I haven't checked Omnisphere or Dimension Pro, because I usually use stereo pairs for them, but I'll bet they have the same issue.

I used to do that, too. But too often I'd later want to edit a MIDI part or replace a soft synth with something better that I'd acquired since the project was recorded, and be forced to re-record the part.

Nowadays I put the original MIDI/audio synth pairs into a folder, archive and hide them. That way they're as good as gone as far as SONAR is concerned, but can still be retrieved in a pinch.

I save the source tracks (and the various versions along the way) but at mix time, I have a project with nothing but audio files for simplicity, with one exception:  the final project always has one MIDI track with the meldoy and lyrics for reference in case we realize we need to re-sing something.

I keep on labouring the same point.

Freezing the synth doesn't involve your Fx bin, or the Pro Channel unless you choose it to do so.

After freezing the synth the Fx bin remains active/live/whatever you care to call it for full editing capability.

There must be a bug, because when I freeze instrument tracks, the ProChannel EQ usually stops working—even after I unfreeze.

That's maybe because you haven't deselected "Track Fx" in the freeze dialog.
