Hi,
Up until now, I've been using SONAR in 32 Bit, but looking at some of the threads posted recently
I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and installing 64 Bit, but does this mean that the projects
I'm already working on will be 32 Bit, and will it only be future projects that will be 64 Bit ?
Obviously by my signature I have a 64 Bit OS, with a fair amount of RAM, as I'm just running
Windows 7 Premium, will it make a difference to, my sound and my workflow, because if it doesn't
make that much of a difference why bother ? I sometimes think, reading some of these threads that
the camp is a little divided when it comes to this subject.
So why should I change to 64Bit ?

Thanks

To your sound and workflow probably no real discernible difference, however, and it's a BIG however, if you use lots of softsynths it will make a huge difference as you will be able to access more than the 3gb that a32 bit system will limit you too.

As you have 16gb of ram it kinda makes sense to me.....

The ability to run 64 bit SONAR is relatively new. A few years ago we all were running 32 bit. The biggest difference is SONAR's use of your machines memory. As STinGA indicated the 32 bit version of SONAR will never use more than 25% of what you have installed because it does not know it is there. The 64 bit version will see all of it. You may not have a compelling case to run 64 bit SONAR, it really depends on how you use SONAR. The best way to answer your questions would be to install it and see for yourself.

There's a Sonar DX plugin or two that you will lose.

It was inconvenient, especially since I thought Sonar plugs should continue through versions.

...oh, and I believe there are issues with DimPro if you have paid for the full version.

I am curious, did you try wrapping the DX effect in dxshell? I have not bothered to try it myself, stopped using the DX stuff quite a while ago.

I'd say it's 20-40 % better...

It's more complicated than that. firstly, it is simply not available to  install in the 64bit version (8.5 64bit also does not, so it's not an X1 issue).

and if you install the 32 bit version in parallel, they are still not visible. It had something to do with a single file with a dx extension which is collectively needed by a handful of these plugins and that somehow did not work.

It has been discussed at length before, members more knowledgeable than me also threw in the towel eventually.

Thanks I knew all that. So I'll take that as a no.

I suppose it depends what you mean by relatively I have been running 64 bit Sonar exclusively for the last 3 years, I would consider that a long time in IT.

Unless you have an un-bridgable 32 bit plugin you can't do without or until recently you were using rewire I can't see any point in running 32 bit.
