• SONAR
  • MIDI (VST Instruments) vs AUDIO sync. issue :/

Hi all ...

i´ve just bought Sonar X1 and with my first work i found a major blocking issue.

I created a MIDI drum track from my Komplete 8 (VST Instrument) and i add to audio track above a loop from the X1 libraries. Then i press space and i heard a mess! The loop was out of sync to the midi track.

So i went to the audio setting and set the "latency buffer" to a minimum (about 64ms - and also set this value on my FW410 as samples). It helps a bit, but not to be perfect ... i´m affraid to set it lower ´cos i compose full movie soundtracks with many audio tracks, midi tracks and effects ...

I bought X1 for full production and it it does not work with a simple midi and audio track .... well i upgraded from Sonar 6 PE where it all works correctly - its a mystery for me ...

I think it´s an soundcard setup problem or just i´m doing something wrong - does have anyone some experience with this issue?

My setup is: i3 2,8Ghz, 12GB RAM, M-Audio FW 410, VSL Libraries, Komplete 8 and others VST Instruments (all original).
Thank you for any advice.
I´m new to this forum so please apologize if this was reported before ... and also sorry for my english  - i´m from Czech Republic :)

Hi Pavel,

Welcome to the forum :)

If I were you I'd try lowering the latency setting. What's the worst thing that can happen? You would hear clicks pops and stuttering - if you do, bring up the latency back up.

I sometimes use up to 120 track for orchestrations and my latency is down to 23ms.

Your 64ms is far too high in my opinion.

No matter how much latency, it should sync up with automatic delay compensation or whatever it is.

Are you talking samples or ms?

I run 192 samples (I think it is) which is 4ms latency.

Can you play a keyboard in real time?

Hi guys, thanxs a lot for your advices :) I tried to set the driver mode to ASIO (i used to use WDM/KS). This is the result: Asio reported latencies: Input 4,9 ms - 216 samples Output 4,9 ms - 216 samples Total roundtrip: 9,8 ms 432 samples It plays syncronized now and i can play and record VST instruments live on my master keyboard without any latency in combination AUDIO and MIDI tracks. But it´s just a simple 4 track testing project :) I try to open some old 50+ track project of mine from SONAR 6 PE to see how it works with a number of VST´s effects and realtime processed audio tracks ... It´s a mystery for me what changed in the Sonar engine ´cos i´ve never had a playback sync. problem in previous version of Sonar (well it was impossible to play live with VST´s cos of a big latency, but the playback was OK) :D Just for info: i set 64-bit double precission Engine ON Driver mode is ASIO/ Dithering NONE (maybe you can help me to choose one from the list) File system: Plyback I/O buffer is 1024/ Rec. Buffer 256 Rec. latency - Use ASIO Reported latency is set 432 samples On my souncard M-Audio FW 410 is ASIO/WDM buffer set to 128 samples. BTW. are there some set up screenshots available to help users like me? I should read the manual carefully :) Thanx a lot for your help! :) I really do appreciate it. And sorry for my english :D Pavel www.krychtalek.com
