  • Some questions about Melodyne and ReWire

So I've figured out how to insert Melodyne as a ReWire... Insert > ReWire Device > Melodyne. But that's about all I know how to do. Doing this seems to create a brand new track in my project for Melodyne, similar to an Simple Instrument Track with softsynths. I have several questions about how to use Melodyne in this way:

1) How do I get my vocal audio clips onto Melodyne? I've found that you can simply drag a vocal clip from the project to the Melodyne window, but you cannot place it where you want in Melodyne's timeline. It only places the vocal in the beginning. I cannot seem to move the vocal audio inside of Melodyne.

2) Can I close/open Melodyne when I want, in order to make changes from time to time? With V-Vocal, you can simply close the V-Vocal window and re-open it to make additional changes anytime you want. Is there a way to do this with Melodyne ReWire?

3) Is there a way to see the actual waveform of the vocal audio I'm editing with Melodyne on Melodyne's track? Or will the Melodyne track just always be empty?

4) What's the best way to bounce the edited vocals to an audio clip after I'm done editing with Melodyne? Is there a way to do it from without SONAR, like bounce the track to audio? Or do I have to save the audio from within Melodyne, then find and open that file from inside SONAR?

Thanks in advance!

I use melodyne with cubase. There you just have to turn on the incoming signal and you can hear melo inside of cubase.
Should be like that.

You have to open melo after sonar is running, then create a new project, and import an audio file (your vox track) click the track and highlight the wav form and drag it to where it belongs.

Then when you play you should hear and echo/doubling effect so you know you have it in the right place, you need to mute the original track to get rid of that.

So then I correct it, you can see it and everything.

Then I bounce it to a track in cubase.

The rewire channel that melo comes in on should be sent to your vocal bus so that it gets your regular vox fx and sounds the same.

I'm using an older version of Melodyne, so this may no longer be applicable, but I've had difficulty using ReWire with it. I get reliable results using Melodyne's own bridge, which I insert as an instrument.

Could you elaborate on that a little more? What do you mean "Melodyne's own bridge"? Is that different from just inserting Melodyne into a track's FX bin? Thanks in advance

I'm using Melodyne Studio, which is a separate application, so there needs to be a data pipe between SONAR and Melodyne. That can either be ReWire or the Melodyne Bridge, which takes the form of a VST plugin that goes into the fx bin. I'm not even sure if that applies to the current version.

Is there a particular reason why you are using Rewire as opposed to the orthodox method of inserting in the track FX?

Transport/sync of X1 control within Melodyne...

I'd suggest bouncing the track from bar 1 to song end, importing it to melodyne standalone Rewire slaved on bar 1...
