I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Windows 10 is little more than 8.1 with a start menu and some stuff.
The New Sonar is little more that X3 with some stuff.

I have the win 10 tech preview and haven't found any thing that wont run that does run in 8.1
All the windows COM components seems happy and even ActiveX EXEs run as expected too.
While I haven't run PLAT on 10 I would be floored if it didn't work.

Some friends of mine are testing the Tech Preview as well and they've told me the drivers are the same as 8.1, so I don't foresee any problems, minor ones at most.

The Bakers have had a relationship with Intel and Microsoft for years, I am confident that this will be a non-issue,

Yes, Sonar will in fact be 100% compatible the moment that Windows 10 is released, and you can quote me on that. I may be wrong but you may still quote me.

As long as they stay away from porting Sonar to run as a "modern" app, I'm sure it would be fine.

Right now it is impossible to get low latency on WinRT (aka "modern"/Metro/toy apps) since they have removed all audio APIs that had any chance if giving you low latency, and only left shared mode WASAPI. Meaning a 160 ms round trip latency at best. I was in the process of porting a real app to a "modern" app and gave up once I realized this.

And people wonder why there are no "modern" quality audio apps in the Windows Store.

The main issues are going to be hardware driver compatibility. Roland for example took months to come out with supported drivers for the VS100 and 700 when Windows 8 came out. It is going to depend quite a bit more on the particular hardware you are using rather than Sonar.

This likely won't be an issue for most. Besides, those using W-RT won't be able to upgrade for free anyway, sorry to say.

Since Cakewalk have very few products that aren't Windows-only, with ongoing Windows compatibility, they don't have a business. I wouldn't worry about it.

As an aside, I'm rather looking forward to Windows 10. I think it looks really good. The same rule applies to Windows as to the Star Trek movies; when you land on a good one, skip the next one, as it's bound to suck.

Windows 10 is great so far.

As Hill62 pointed out, drivers for Hardware will be the issue. Roland (Edirol), for example took aged to release drivers for Windows 8. Forget the fact that it had been available in preview form for a YEAR before public release. It was pathetic.

Even more pathetic is that their Windows 7 drivers COULD have worked fine, but they wrote their drivers to NOT install if the operating system wasn't specifically Windows 7. Most other drivers wont lock you out that way.

I'm hoping these companies wake up this time, download the Preview version of Windows 10 (like every other hardware manufacturer has), and write/test their drivers BEFORE we need them. Not after.

Jeeze. Do I rant much or what?!

IS've been using win10 for months. Recorded and all. Works fine. And I love the new win10.
