Followed the instructions to increase the buffer size from 256 to 512 on a 64-bit 8G RAM W10 Home MSI laptop with NVIDIA WDM.
a)Everything including the web went silent.
b)Yet the Sonar dialog box repeatedly showed that it wasn't taking to this change even if it did not barf after clicking the Apply.
c)Had to run W10 Repair which said it was a "generic driver" issue.
I read some similar ASIO related problem from March 2017 and was wondering if there were any new opinions on the subject.
Thanks in advance.

Which version of platinum are you running ?
I wouldn't use WDM. Its horrible. Try using WASAPI instead if you have a newer version of Sonar.
Your using onboard Soundcard correct ? Not an Audio interface ?

It's the 64-bit Platinum from Dec 2016.
And yes, WDM is the onboard Soundcard.
Will try to explore the WASAPI during a lull.
Thanks for the suggestion!

If you cant get WASAPI to work on Windows 10 then your next best bet is going to be ASIO4ALL.
WDM is not a great choice and no matter how low/high you set your buffers your going to get latency.
One must consider the price you paid for the software, an audio device is the most important part of the set up.
An external soundcard can be bought used for under 100 bucks.
