Hey all,

So with the Softube Mix Bundle sale about to expire, I'm curious if anyone here with the bundle has decided it's NOT worth the price of admission? Set aside the iLoc debate: Are these plugs worth $179? Is the convenience  of having them in the Pro Channel the best part of these plugs, or do they make mixing easier than the Cakewalk Pro Channel and built in VST plugs?

Just curious.

Thanks!!

The bundle is worth it, provided you don't have similiar 3rd party plugs.  In order of usefulness compared to X1 Pro is the reverb, which is better than X1 Pro's, as well as the focusing EQ - which is both great and quick and easy to use.

The FET is similar to the PC 1176, while the other SoftTube EQs are equal to the PC EQ, so you don't really get much exta firepower from them (tho they are all good plugs).

The other good thing is they come as reg. VST's, so if you want to double comp or EQ>comp>EQ etc. you can slot them in the FX bin and put it pre or post.  You get a little more flexibility using high-quality plugs (tho the sonitus usually will sufice for this function).

If you don't have a good, algorithmic reverb it is well worth it for that - the other stuff is icing on the cake.  If you have spent similiar bucks on a reverb unit, the cost/benefit ratio is lower.

Thanks AT!

I have all the Pro Channel FXs in addition to the plugs that come with Sonar X1 Pro. I recently purchased IK's TRacks3 which has nice EQs and Comps, but no verbs. The verbs I have are older 32 bit verbs, which include Classic Reverb, Garritan Ambience, Glace Verb, Pantheon, Perfect Space and SIR.

You think the Softube reverb is better than anything included with X1 Pro?

Not necessarily better than PS (I have a lot of impulses), but different and certainly better than any algorithmic reverb included.  It is really nice, tho a bit of a cpu hog.  To my mind, worth the money.

The focus EQ is also top notch - it just works.  Most of the time just roll of the appropriate bass and the boost eqs work.

I think the Softube reverbs are better than those included in SONAR.
Having them in the Pro Channel makes it a matter of convenience that can't be ignored.
But if you have others you might not find the value in this bundle. I however did.
Other than VSTis I pretty much just use the Pro Channel when using SONAR. Kind of a super channel strip. When mastering I use Ozone 5 Adv but do that in Sound Forge 10 generally.

Back to Softube- I think they are very good quality plugins.

I actually think the FET Compressor really great and better than the PC76. I don't regret the purchase.

I expected more...
But as a plugin maniac, I decided to take the opportunity... But, again, not very impressive...
I have UAD (all delays , reverbs, modulations, compressor, Eqs...) Waves Mercury, Nomad Factory Magma,   Nomad Factory Studio Bundle, IK CSR and all singles... I could skip this SofTube... But it was the only prochannel stuff I didn't have yet...
And, I agree, the reverb sounds really nice.

Peace.

Hey ProMusic27,that is a LOT of plugins,if you have the whole Mercury Bundle as well!

I'm intrigued as I've been demoing the Nomad Factory Magma rack setup, and I find the quality a little lacking, compared to what Nomad stuff I've tried before,I only own the Pulse Tech-Pultec emulation EQ,from Nomad Factory, and love it,apart from it crashing X1,if I change presets, while X1's transport is running....it's this dell xps laptop, that is the problem,as it never happens on my desktop.

It's just I would have thought, the Mercury bundle, would far outshine the Magma?

Thanks

I've been waiting for an offer on the Soft Tube bundle, but now that it's here, I cannot justify the price (I'm currently out of  'new toy funding')

I decided against it, because the pro channel plugs I do have will do the job for me. I'm very happy with the PC EQ , compressors and concrete limiter, and I also have bought the Softube TSAR-1R sepreately, so I feel I'm all set for my needs.
