My wife's almost new, up to date lenova laptop all of a sudden stopped functioning on the internet, it took forever to open things. She was using FF 14, I tried Chrome and it still took forever to load pages, I dug out the IE 9 that came with it and now it's ticking along nice and perky on the net. Go figure.
Probably whatever network problem you were having cleared up. It had nothing to do with Chrome which works almost perfectly.
