MDI Is never coming back, sadly.
You can blame mobile and our fat fingers.

Apparently a lot of people like the old GUI. Here's what I found thanks --

Here’s where the themes are kept.

I still use 8.5.3 on a small laptop for recording artists at their own venues.
The new GUI uses screen real-estate uneconomically and no theme is going to fix that.

Use the keyboard shortcut C to hide the control bar.
There is a very small difference between 8.5 and X series in reference to the control bar/the header

I jpetersen,

The "real-estate" was better with S8.5, as well as rhe "vividity" of the colors. I jump on the X train when it came out and felt the difference right.

Note that "real-estate" is something that popped when microsft office application went "bubbly".

ooh but you can "roll the banner up and down"...the call that a feature. Yoo bad the don't have a feature to make the wondow's side narrower.

ok it's not a microsoft groupe.....but pverall it's a very approach to gui implementation. But what do I know, I'm an old guy that doesn't have a smart phone, has never sent a texto, tweet, instagram, or pictures of a meal I'm eating....cheers everyone.....(-:

Just before the X-Train came out, a strange survey was sent which only asked really detailed questions regarding what screens we were using. Proof there was debate amongst the Bakers regarding this new interface.

Of course, everyone bragged about their hi-res 35" dual-monitor setups. I with my 11" laptop groaned.

Yup. And then came Windows 8.

And you cannot get rid of the multidoc border at the bottom, even if it's empty. Nor the browser border on the right if you ever misguidedly pressed "B". About 2 and a bit prochannel plugs fit on my screen.

Perhaps that's why you can't use sonar efficiently?
