  • Step Sequencer Problem - SOLVED

When I create a step sequencer clip, everything works fine, but if I want to make a change, I double-click the clip (or select it and use the "views" menu to open it) and it opens a new instance (I think) of the step sequencer and I can't make changes to the original.

Anyone else have this problem? Any known fixes or work-arounds ?

I got help once before with this (almost this) problem but that fix doesn't seem to work now.

Thanks!

Thanks Barczar. I am familiar with the Step Sequencer. I'm sure something strange is happening with mine. If I never "close" the step sequencer, but "minimize" it when I'm not working in it, it's fine. If I do "close" it, I can't open that instance of it by double clicking the clip or using the menus. I called tech support and they haven't heard of this, so I guess it's a problem unique to my system. Thanks for the reply though!

That is weird. Hope you find a solution.

Do you highlight the clip you want to edit?   If you click on a track where there isn't a clip you open a new instance of the step sequencer so you can "add" more variations of the sequence.

Hi AT,

Yes, I do highlight the clip. I usually double click the clip which should be a positive way to open it.

For anyone interested ...
I found something out. Fast Biker Boy told me this a while back and I guess I had forgotten exactly how to do it, but it works:

As I said, If I close a step sequencer window, then try to reopen it by double clicking on the clip (or any other method of opening it), the step sequencer opens with no data in it. (Not sure if it's a new instance or if the data is just not showing) BUT ...

If I minimize that reopened window, then press "D", which is the keyboard shortcut to "Expand/collapse MultiDock", then double click the clip again, it opens with the data, every time. So my problem is solved.
