Hey group I finally upgraded systems after 4 years and I am ready to get rolling again.  Going back through my store account this is the route I went to kick off sonar several years ago and have been upgrading since.  Hopefully I can dive in somewhere and upgrade one of these without the cd's.  I have bought them a few times along the way but always just upgraded using the software route.  Thanks for any input.

Here is what you will need to get X1 fully up to speed on the new system (and I would definitely use the original X1 disc as a starting point):

X1 Producer
X1c update
X1 Expanded upgrade
X1d (Expanded version) update

You will not need the X1a or X1b patches or any "quick-fix" patches as they are "rolled into" the X1c patch.

If you wanted to install 8.5 separately, you can do so - many of us have both versions loaded and operational on our systems. But it is not necessary to have it installed to be able to install X1. If you do decide to install 8.5, I would definitely download and install the last update to bring it up to version 8.5.3.

Hope this helps!

Joel that helps alot.  I bought the x1 disk but they have gotten away from me.  I can find sonar 8 producer disk as well as a sonar v studio 100 disk that I haven't installed from my new v-studio 100.  Would either of those disk be of help?

Thanks for your replies.  I skipped right overs olskoolguy's comment : If you wanted to install 8.5 separately, you can do so - many of us have both versions loaded and operational on our systems. rocker41,
Sorry for the late reply (hey, I've been making music in the precious little spare time I have had!)...

It sounds like if you want to install X1 (having misplaced the discs), you will need to download the FULL X1 installer from your account at Cakewalk.

As Jonesey said, you will NOT be able to install the 8.5 version then upgrade it to X1, but you WILL be able to get to the last build version of 8 (8.5.3) using that method.

But - even though I still have it on my system - I rarely use 8.5.3 these days... I am too enamored of the functionality, gui and everything else that is X1 to leave that environment unless I have to (such as older projects created with 8.5 that don't import well into X1 for various reasons).

(And a shout-out to the man from Bristol who has saved my (DAW) life more times than I can count... Thanks, Jonesey!)

Hey, no problem my friend.

As a reward you have my permission to listen to ALL of Joe's Garage, followed by Sheik Yerbouti, Hot Rats, You Are What You Is and the entire YCDTOSA series.

You can pass on Thing Fish if you want (I personally love it!)

Jonesey,

No, I am right there with you on Thing Fish - the more innovative Frank's music became, the more I enjoyed it!

But I would probably substitute something like Waka/Jawaka for Sheik Yerbouti, and I would want to throw in at least one of the "Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar" series to round it out.

Be well!

EDIT: Is that a left-handed LP Black Beauty I see in your avatar? I didn't even know you were a "southpaw"... so am I, but I play guitar right-handed 'cause I learned from my right-handed father. It is about the ONLY thing I don't do leftie.

Joel, it's a Gibson LP Studio 50 Tribute WE TM, bought recently by my wife for my birthday.

Although I'm left handed, I string all my guitars "upside down" because that's how I learnt to play all those years ago. Which means I always have to have the bridge and/or saddles modded to get the intonation spot on.

Agreed with "Shut Up", what a wonderful collection of solos. We used to have little competitions guessing which original song the solos were taken from. 'Inca Roads' got far too many hits!
