hi folks....anyone know how i will connect my CME UF6 to my soundblaster panel by MIDI. There is only a MIdi out on the back of the keyboard....but there is a midi in and midi out on the panel(audigy 2 ZS). I tried connecting the cable to the midi in on the panel,,,but no dice, I have a casio keyboard that has midi in and midi out on the back, and that works ok when connesting to the panel,to the midi in and midi out there. Does the CME need the same as the casio a midi in ???? The back of the sound card has no midi connections. would appreciate any help/thanks /ray.....by the way the usb connection from the cme works...but i have heard it's better to connect midi :-)

MIDI Out on the UF6 to MIDI In on the Soundblaster should work, but why aren't you using the USB port on the UF6? Whoever said the MIDI cable connection is better than the USB was misinformed. Besides, unless you use the USB connection, you have no way to send MIDI to the CME since it doesn't have a MIDI In port. Either way, make sure the CME is set to transmit MIDI. Using the USB port will require you to install a driver on your computer so make sure you have the latest version of the driver for your version of Windows.

hi daveny,,,and thanks for the info. Well I thought that I needed the midi out and the power adapter so that I can use the breath control and after touch. Maybe I can have  all of them connected at the same time?? I havn't tried the midi out with the usb connected ,so I¨ll try that,. I'm not a genius at this,so can I ask u ,how do i be sure that the cme is set to transmit  MIDI?? I know it works with the USB connected. I installed the drivers aldready, and it works great. are u good with the cme uf6?? Thought maybe i can ask u a few more questions...cheers/Ray

I'm not familiar with the UF6. I downloaded the manual to get that information.

You can have both the USB and the MIDI connected at the same time, but I can't think of any reason to do that. The USB should work fine. I think it should be set to transmit MIDI so don't worry about that. If not, read the manual. Its decent as far as manuals go.

I had a Sound Blaster Audigy II with those mini MIDI ports on the front of the break out box, I also remember they rarely worked. I think I could only get them going in MME mode. The Sound Blaster has very bad ASIO drivers, well documented here. In those days I used Home Studio. Just get the USB working, forget the SB MIDI ports. There is no difference between using MIDI connectors and USB, It's a very simple data transfer. I wold look for a proper audio interface as soon as you can. The Audigy is great for high quality stereo recording of TAPE or LP transfers, but because the ASIO drivers would not work in Cakewalk I never could use Soft Synths.
