  • does anybody else get a creative block when trying to sequence electronic drums in sonar?

and by electronic i simply mean like this synth-pop era type drums... None of the kits in dimension or superior are useable for dance/pop so you end up having to use the clumsy browser to try and preview and import samples... I just end up making a placeholder beat and then making drums in another program. kind of pisses me off tbh.

um... use what works for you. You can't blame Sonar for this.

just wanted to see if there were others in my shoes. and if there are others that have found workarounds.

Have you tried using the step sequencer for creating your drum tracks? Sonar has all the same tools other programs have you just have to learn to use them.

yeah i use the ss quite a bit. maybe i should make a video showing how its super easy in FL to audition drum samples and go from there. when it comes to everything else, literally, sonar wins, but drum sequencing is the biggest pain ever.

Well what exactly is causing you issues? You mention the browser but it works as intended. If it is the file structure messing you up there are ways to set it up to your tastes however when and if I start delving into more electronic style music I might use Ableton to get things set up then dump it into Sonar to polish things. I've heard it's a winning combination even if they are supposedly "competing" companies.

gah! why can't one program do it all! haha. I've actually tried using fl studio as a VST in sonar but it keeps crashing, and nobody on either side (IL or CW) helped me with it. Here I'll make a quick video to demonstrate. maybe its just that the browser needs a tweak... for a start anyways.

You could build kits for for SD3 or DimPro from just about any source. It's not that hard to do.

FL, Ableton... whatevs. Doesn't FL Studio work as a plug in anyway? I might be wrong but even if I am just create your beats or whatever then toss it into Sonar. I always found FL to be weird but I'm a rock dinosaur so I'm more into recording live stuff as opposed to heavy sampling.

FL is crashing as a plug? Is your computer powerful enough to handle both programs? If it is I'd get a hold of support to see if there are any known compatibility issues.
