  • Question about organizing clips

I'm a little confused about how to keep clips organized in Sonar. In Pro Tools, there is a clip list window in which you can freely browse and rename all of your clips, takes etc. I found it to be an invaluable part of the workflow, however I don't see any such way to get an overview of your clips in Sonar. Am I missing something - how do you guys generally work? Granted I've only been at this a few days.

Hi Sharke,

I could be wrong here, but in all my time using Sonar I have never seen such a handy tool/window. There may be one in X1, but, again, I haven't come across it yet.

Project-Audio Files shows all of your audio clips in the project.

I think what Sharke is after, although I have never seen protools, is a window that displays a list of all pf the individual clips/takes and allows you to rename them from there. I don't think that you can do that from the project audio window Dave. Can you?

Not that I know of.

Well I hereby request it for X2! :)

This is how it looks in Pro Tools...it's really useful to be able to see your clips in a list like this and to drag them over to the track window, especially when you're auditioning multiple takes or arranging patterns.

hmmm... well, we have a "Browser" and in that we can drag various content types across, and I suppose you could create a folder to view your audio clips, but I'm just speculating here...

Yes but I cannot do that with MIDI clips because they're baked into the project file, yes? Would be handy though!

yeah, I was wondering if you included MIDI clips in your question, but I wasn't sure if protools did MIDI.

Could be a good feature to be able to view a list of clips in a window like that, with filters so that you can view the different types of clip and the ability to sort by various parameters like clip name, date created etc.

I guess once you've arranged with a clip browser, you can't imagine not having one, so if I buy Sonar I'm going to have to adjust to being without it. Seems like such an easy feature to implement, and really obvious in a DAW. I don't know if Cubase or Logic have one because I've never used them.
