Away from my system and thinking about last night-  My client had me re-order the songs in an album' master project I had set up for him. We moved ahead with everything moved into the new sequence, but I had pre-named these song wav files with track numbers (1- 'song name etc.) prior to importing them into this proj.
Just trying to anticipate what happens- or the best course to take- If I change the file names to their new track numbers..? 'Files not found' isl certainly likely happen..  
Re-name then rebuild the proj ..? ick

There is no way to manipulate the filenames. "ONLY" The projectfile (cwp) knows which wavefile on which track and measure will be loaded. Renaming the files has no function - you get the message 'files not found'.
