Resonant Order
Melodyne's ARA tech is now available for all DAWs, so I'm assuming it'll be in X2. S2 lacks a dedicated tempo view, and makes it nearly impossible for smooth ramps in the tempo view it does have, which I have to have for scoring. It simply makes things more realistic when I can speed my midi up the way a human would before a section changes. The tempo changes in S2 are stepped and clunky. Also, no way in S2 to build preset trees for my plugs, and I have close to 400. No desire to dig through a browser for what I need when I can build an intuitive system myself in Sonar.

That said, I do love the way S2 builds projects and the mastering tools that I comes with, and that's why it is still on my machine. Can't use it for composing, but when it comes to the finished product, it simply does the red book standard far easier than any other program I've used.

I tried Studio One Too...

Didn't like it...

Didn't like the interface...didn't like the workflow...didn't like the features...

My next "try" will be Digital Performer 8.....

So far, for ME....Sonar X1 is the reigning DAW....hands down...

I tried it after X1 kept crashing (x1c..??).  I read a lot of great stuff, but I couldn't get into the workflow.  Even Pro Tools was easier for me to work with.  I was honestly hoping that Presonus would change the way I work in a great way.

I simply missed the FX Bin and hated using a virtual mixer.  I use the FX Bin in track view constantly and I NEVER use the mixer in X1.  I'm always in track view.  I couldn't wrap my head around using a mixer view that wasn't linked up to the track view the way I'd like it to be.  It wasn't worth the Melodyne tie-in cause it slowed me down so much to work in a GUI I wasn't really enjoying.

Anyways, X1d has fixed a lot of the random crashing it seems.  I get a crash or two every few days, but it's not a deal breaker as of now.  I'd rather work fast and creatively rather than thinking about "how do I do this??"

Don't Crossgrade but save your money for future versions of Sonar. Give your money to Cakewalk and not Presonus so that Cakewalk can continue to improve its products, including Sonar. No going ProTools, Cubase, FLStudio, Reaper, Logic, etc. Sonar is the only DAW you need to make good or bad music.

I agree, but only because I tried the demo and didn't like it.
By saying this, you come off as a bit of a fan-bio.  You can make awesome music with Reaper, PT, etc etc.  Just a matter of what gets it done easiest to you and lets you have more fun.

Try everything you want.  But if you enjoy making music in Sonar, you'll be back.  I didn't want to come back after all the crashing, but I did.
