Hi, I own SONAR X1 Studio and Dimension Pro purchased separately. If I want to upgrade to X1 producer should I pay for Dimension Pro again? Or, which is the upgrade path in this situation? Cheers,

Dimension Pro comes with X1, so no need to repurchase it.  You may have to update it to the newest version (1.5) to use it, if you haven't already.  As for the upgrade path, follow the instructions on the CW site where you download X1.  Good luck and enjoy.

I did want to say is that I already paid for Dimension Pro when I purchased it. Now, when I upgrade to X1 Producer, as it also includes Dimension Pro, I pay for it again... So I pay for it two times...

You can look at that way or you could look at it as a free inclusion.

We've already gone down that road in the forum a few years ago so can we not go there again? . That and the Cakewalk MP3 license are wearing thin....

Hi Mahtazz,

I'm in the same boat as you are, I have Dimension Pro, I also bought Z3ta separately, as well as Z3ta2, AND rapture...

I would have considered upgrading to producer, but over the years, I invested at least as much as the upgrade price, in separate CW products that ended up in the producer edition... and seeing that someone paying 200$ for a new studio edition gets bumped up to producer, and us, who have already paid 200$+ upgrades, have to pay another 200$... that is kinda not too fair...

Still, I bought the studio edition, and I'm completely happy about it, I have other alternatives to CW bundled stuff (UAD, TC, SSL), but having it all in one software ... I'd do it for a 100$ upgrade...

There is an upgrade system in Vienna Symphonic Libraries, that I find very honest,
When you buy bundles, and want to upgrade specific sections, they discount for the samples you already have... I wished CW would do the same, I mean, with the pro channels and such going on, I think that's something inevitable no ?

Cheers !

I completely understand your frustration as it corresponds with my frustration that I have to buy a lot of features and add ons that I don't want, intend to use or have amply covered by 3rd party companies that do a better job at it.

But I've come to the conclusion that it's tough luck and I just deal with it and move on with SONAR (or not.)  You'll probably have to do the same thing.

Perhaps you'll find Pro Channel worth the price of admission, as well as a  number of other features not in Studio.

I bought X1 Studio[$199 box from Gigasonic-San Hose,as nobody in Australia stocked X1 at that time, and my internet was too slow for downloading anything more than 500mb back then],and then thought I was missing out,so for a reasonable price,I bought X1Producer[boxed version again]and appreciated the Pro Channel, and Session Drummer 3,until I bought Steven Slate Drums 4[released last Xmas].

If I were you,and knowing that Studio is EXACTLY the same, minus the Pro Channel-channel strip, and a few mastering plugins etc,I would hold off,and get an upgrade deal for X2 Producer, which judging by past releases, will be out in December.

Honestly,if you have other plugins, even some of the good FREE/Donation ones[Ferric TDS,Limiter 6+many more] Studio is easily as good as Producer in its purest form, the only thing I would probably miss is "Replace Synth",as that makes swapping soft synths a breeze.

It would all depend on the price for me,but already buying Dimension Pro,is just one of those situations where you just have to suck it up,for instance I bought a bunch of modules for the Free version of Amplitube 3,from the custom shop, and then I bought the full program, that already had those modules as part of the full program.

Cheers

Thanks all of you folks. I've decided to upgrade to X2 Studio when available and add 3rd party plugs to my arsenal. Cheers!
