Andy, you can, if it really floats your boat, set up a BFD2 kit with 32 cymbals in it

Yeah... I really must look into what it costs to get the full package. I just can't justify it at the moment as I am not being able to get one productive tune together at the moment, on account of learning so many things at once.

Next thing you know... X2 starts to surface, and I'm also thinking of moving up to Windows 8 at the same time.

I reckon it will be early 2013 before I start some proper composing.

sorry for the ramble...

I notice a lot of people mentioning Battery. It just happens I am just in the process of installing Komplete 8 I almost decided to give Battery a miss to save disk space, The interface looked pretty archaic and I was not over impressed by the demo. I am installing it and coming to this thread it seems that that may be the right move.

Yeah, the interface isn't that great, and I've never really gotten into tweaking the kits myself, and I stick to what ever Battery gives me. I do like the kits though, and I think that it will remain my fave for now, simply because it was the first VST kit I picked up.

It's always worthwhile checking every so often to see what deals are being done - the full BFD2 package was selling for £99 at one point last year

Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2 with more than a few SDXs and a couple of EZXs. Don't feel the need to look elsewhere or start a collection. Completely satisfied with what it offers me.

I use Steven Slate drums platinum V4 and BFD2. I also use the kits in FLStudio's FPC. The Big Mono kit samples have been adapted to FPC by a long time user and he uses the analog drums to great effect.

I like Session Drummer for real like drum sounds, of course it's always debatable.

Unfortunately, you don't get the same range of articulations in Session Drummer that you do with most of the 3rd party Vsti's mentioned in this thread.

ive used alot of different programs but my favorite still is session drummer, here is why:
its stripped down so your adding all your own effects, not processed efeects that come with the drum simulator.(like bfd)
and have you ever tried to seperate every drum track out to a seperate track in bfd?
sure it can be done, but someone tell me how easy it is compared to session drummer?
the cost:hello ???
the onlt thing its lacking is a massive sound library.like bfd or addictive.
but then again,im not looking for a huge library,i want a dry drum sound so i can be the one to add the effects to my liking so it doesnt sound like the next guys drum sounds.
its those little things that make your music more original.
sample loop librarys: ??  dont even go there,if your a true musician your writing your own drum parts anyway so who needs them?
i just assume have a drum kit with no loops at all.

hmm... What's the difficulty in getting BFD to output to separate tracks, Chuck? That is definitely how I prefer to do things. Cheers.

I use OWD Silver (expandable) and I got some good drums sounds I like from picking up two extra drum sets. I imagine with the guys behind Ocean Way Studios that the samples are exceptional. YMMV ;-) http://www.oceanwaydrums.net/audio1.php

I just checked out some of the ocean waves kits and have to admit they sound very well recorded and with good variations. So I decided to see how much they cost and was shocked. There are two versions, normal and platinum. The normal version at sweetwater will set you back $369, the platinum version is $1795.00.
To add insult to injury I then discovered that you have to run it through kontakt
