I have an audio clip that is in a folder with numerous (@30) other
variations of the same and when I try to insert one particular clip
it inserts at the middle of measure 1861 consistantly.

I know of three ways to insert from the browser- one is dragging, another
is double-clicking and right clicking and selecting "insert at now time".

I have closed and re-opened the project. The only noticeable thing I've
found is that the doesn't have the "now time" line when I drag it onto
the tracks screen...all other filed do.

Something seems to have been embedded into the file that makes
it "think" now time is at the middle of measure 1861.

Can somebody explain this please?

  It is a  .wav file.

In SONAR, choose Edit > Preferences (or press P). In the dialog box, choose the File - Audio Data category. Then remove the checkmark next to the option called Alway Import Broadcast Waves At Their Timestamp.

After you do that, the WAV file should import to where you specify.
