Here's a rough mix of another one of Brian's songs. Lots of guitars in it!

I think you have to work on the mix. Left guitar was soft until the lead on the right came in later (still left guitar was soft all the way through). The harmonies of the vocals were nice and the rhythm guitar which predominated the mix.
The bass was subdued too much for me, as well as the drums.
Well, that about it, nice song though, and a lot of parts to tweak in the mix.

Thank you for your comments on the song and the mix.
The left guitar is mixed low by design. Its sole purpose is for some subtle fill and texture. Are you saying that you think the bass and drums should come up? I had to turn down the bass on my stereo for this one. I think the bass might be a bit too loud. I pulled the drums back a bit too, as this is a country ballad and didn't want it to be a hard rock song. I'll see what I can do to pull them up a little without them being overpowering.

I confess, I did not listen on good speakers, but I did listen? I would consider using a different singer. I can hear your guitars (they are unmistakable) And the fiddles.

Hi Scotty, lots of guitars, all good but maybe a bit much ?  I would love to hear a second acoustic guitar instead of the distorted rhythm, just to give the vocals a fighting chance, just my 2 cents. As it is now I would rather hear the backing than the vocalist ; )

As you stated a rough mix with lots of guitars and so it is as you called it. Will be interesting to listen to the final finished mix. The vocals at times are good, but I think they lack emotion in parts. Just MHO.

Peace and Blessings, John

Thanks for the input, guys! I plan to have Brian re-track the vocals.

Yeah, I think I might try using my Taylor baritone in its place and see how that sounds.

Off to a nice start. I like the song. There are nits that I know you hear and will fix so I'll wait on the closer to finished version to comment on this regarding the mix.

Great guitar work and arrangement.  Drums are definitely not present enough in the mix IMO.  Really nice work.

Peace,

Ian
