The time I spend waiting on product scans during the update is longer than I have to wait to perform the D/L.

I don't use it. I download the installers I want from "My Products" on the Cakewalk site. I keep backup copies of the installers in case i need to roll back. It's what I've always done.

Me too. I avoid using it wherever possible. Normally I download the installers on another computer. Then I transfer the files via a flashdrive to the DAW computer, which is offline, and then install. In theory this should take longer than the more direct method of using Command Centre. But, surprisingly, it's slightly quicker.

The program doesn't "assume" that all the products are the same as the last scan.  It may very well be (and probably is for most) but if it "assumed" you know what that means.  By doing the Scan when it starts, it has the full list of what is installed and what version. It can then check that against the database.  How it does that maybe could be improved.  The local scan time is dependent on the PC's speed, SSD or hard drive access speed, etc.  Since part of it is on line, the internet speed to the ISP, the ISP to the "cloud", traffic on the cloud and on the link to the Cakewalk server and how busy the Cakewalk server is at that time will affect how long it takes.  Many variables just to check and time to do this can vary - and be different each time.

Keep in mind your ISP link speed, is just that - the speed between your ISP and your modem.  What happens between the ISP and the "cloud" can be a bottleneck depending on their link(s) to the web,  and the data link(s) that Cakewalk (their site host) have and as noted will vary with how busy the web is.

I'm a retired LAN/WAN Network Manager.  Network data loads, line loads etc were constantly monitored and action taken if needed on overloaded lines.

Yes it's 100% the internet speed for all parts as far as I can tell. As I just updated my laptop this moring and also added a bunch of stuff I had not bothered with at first.
The task it takes a couple of hours at home took me about 30 minutes here with good internet.
My home internet is Satilite, works fine  for most things but not these huge updates we now have with Sonar and W10.
I don't thing the hardware would make much differance as my main DAW is 2x the horsepower off this laptop and the laptop still has a ?? RPM drive my main DAW a SSD. It's the internet.

My biggest problem over most of you is I have Home Studio, Professsional and Platinium each come with a lot of the same add ons which CC scans 3 x my list of products is
SPLAT- 19
Pro-14
Home Studio- 6
Random stuff -13

Dave I love it " Tedious...compared to what? Having your teeth cleaned? "

When the CCC first came out , the very thought of it Rocked my boat and had me upset .
Thankfully my opinion has changed .
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with how well it has performed and I would not want to go back to pre CCC

I also hate how the CC takes so long to scan everything. Surely there must be a faster way of doing this - I'm no programmer, but I should imagine that the version state of all of my Cakewalk products could be stored in just a few bytes of information, and that this info could be uploaded and checked against the current version statuses of the products in a fraction of a second.

I'm no programmer either, but I've always thought this should work since it does for Toontrack's Product Manager (which just seconds to notify me whether the multiple products I own have updates).

As an aside, why do monthly updates always seem to also update a bunch of midi loops/files?  That seems superfluous...

I download the installers, much better method for me than Command Center.

The program itself is a waste of a download, IMO.

Seems to me the point of this thread is that if it didn't take an excessively long time to search for updates, then the command center would be very useful, and more convenient than managing things manually.

I'm now trying to update my Main DAW at home on the slower connection,,, It's like out to lunch slow. ANd because its so slow I'm watching the text scroll,, I saw Melodyne 5 times, I saw the Big fish 3 times I saw Sonar Professional 3 times??? this is after I waited 15 minutes , updated Sonar Splat which did so instantly because I had the files already in the download folder, I made the mistake of asking it to hide something now its been 5 minutes re scanning and re scanning the same things over and over,, I certainly did not have any experience like this at work on my laptop. I was done in 30 minutes including downloads,,, here all the downlaods are done and stored. Installs are super quick. .

And where is any option to update CCC, there's nothing under the gear icon? Mine is obviously way out of date.

OK it finally returned to the main screen and I see there is no way to hide Big Fish globally ( totally not interested) but you can try and hide each child folder. But that's buggy as all hell, It goes round and round and then you get a weird screen asking to download,, it's not the regular screen at all. Then I'm back to the wheel going round and round for 15 minutes.

It's the weekend so I won't be able to test this out on the laptop until next week.. but this really sucks on this computer.

Oh great,,, as I was typing CCC crashed!

I think I'll go have a drink!
