I've loved the FA-66 but my new Windows 7 desktop doesn't like firewire so I'm looking for a new MIDI / audio interface preferably with similar functionality and a similar price.  The UA-55 was recommended.  So two questions:
1. Does anyone make an MIDI/audio interface with a USB 3.0 interface?
2. Thoughts on the UA-55?

Thanks!

I use the FA-66 on Windows 7 (64) for years. I simply put the Firewire-Driver in 'Legacy Mode'. Maybe that works for you too (did you try it?). http://www.rolandforums.c../forums/viewreply/4851/

I too have an FA66 (still use it for my portable scenario), and use a Presonus FirePod firewire. The legacy driver mode 'can' work in Win 7 systems, depending on the firewire chipset. My Windows 7 notebook has the Ricoh chipset, and would not work with any combination of drivers (check out some of the forums, including CW and Presonus). My older platforms running Win XP have either the TI or VIA firewire chipset and have always worked perfectly. I ended up buying a SIIG Express card (TI Chipset) for the notebook (and disabled the ricoh chipset-this is requred, and you do this in the device manager). For my Win 7 desktop (which had no firewire), I also installed s SIIG PCI-e firewire card (TI Chipset). Both have worked perfectly (just make sure for Win 7 you get the latest drivers and a TI chipset). Hope this helps, Richard

Thanks to you all for the replies - much appreciated.  My desktop doesn't have a firewire port and unfortunately I have no PCI slots available so firewire is not an option for me.  Bz2838, I could try a different sound card but I ordered Beats Audio so I'd like to give that a fair shake before switching.

So, what about USB 3.0 audio interfaces or the UA-55?  Any thoughts?

Hi
afaik, there are still no USB 3.0 soundcards available. The best
USB interface is imo the RME Babyface.

There are rumours that in 2013/14 will be some USB 3.0 interface-releases of  RME.
