Thanks, fresh. That was extremely helpful. I think this will work on some of the better takes with some learning and elbow grease. BTW... how the heck did that Anderton fellow get so smart? Love that guy. :-)

Yeah, but ultimately it's just a bandpass eq and clever use of M/S routing. Just all packaged into one easy to use plug.

I see a few people comparing to to Melodyne... It's NOTHING like melodyne at all. There are no similarities whatsoever.

If Melodyne is more accurate then I should probably take a closer look at it. However X2 will end up being something I'd have to buy anyway so this would be a bonus. I have manage to do very basic isolation on stuff like snare hits with just an EQ and the waveform and sure it's possible but for a droog like me the pretty colours will definitely help. And really if I went through ALL the stuff I had that just have vocals cranked too loud or just crappy sound, too much audience noise, line noise/tape hiss, no bottom end, thin guitars and other generally simple tweaks like that I think I could still get a ton of useful material happening. As I said I'll need to research this more because there is a lot of stuff I would just love to use but it's already printed in stereo and I figured aside from just EQing it out (essentially polishing a turd) I had no other options. Even minimal isolation/extraction would be massively useful to me. Cheers.

Yes, I referred to Melodyne due to the Op's question prior to that post.. And I certainly would never compare the two although Melodyne has the advertised capability to isolate one instrument from another to certain degree.

That was a good article.   Craig had found some very interesting uses for it.

I'm hoping it will compliment Melodyne.  I find the DNA technology to be fun and with the right track can do very creative things.  I once changed the bass and horn lines in an excerpt from Brick House as a test, and while not all the results were perfect, it wasn't all that bad.

I'm picturing R-Mix being along the same lines, but instead of changing melodies or copying blobs for harmonies, it'd be more like plugging a mixer into a stereo track and using its faders, pan knobs, EQ and inserts to adjust each channel.     I can dream...

Whoa... Melodyne seems to be $700. Do they have less expensive versions for twerps like me? Any other programs I should look at that won't leave me starving?

Melodyne Editor should be roughly half that amount.   I think.

Actually does V-Vocal operate in a similar manner over the whole spectrum? Maybe I can just do some rough stuff for fun that way for now.

Thanks, stevec. That is a little more sane. Hope you've been well.

Wasn't referring to you specifically, Earl ;) It was more a comment I read on the link to that article haha

Beepster, from the sounds of what you want to do, it'll probably help you a lot as it should be very quick and easy to do. Of course it's not going to turn things into a masterpiece but should at least help make things much more listenable and reasonably balanced. You could clone your master and using a clone of the exact position settings in R-Mix, have vocal in one and no vocal in the other. Then just process the vocal as you would normally including compression, eq and reverb etc. Of you're if you're fixing hundreds of tracks it might be easier to just do it all inside the plug. But I prefer using my own eqs and compressors. Even if a reverb unit has pre and post eq built in, I still prefer to use my own one regardless... Don't really know why though, come to think of it.. Maybe it's just cause I'm more comfortable with an eq interface that I know...
