  • Server Busy Error

Over the last week I have been seeing a error popping up in Sonar when I try and open a soft synth.
It's not happening every time and not always with the same Soft Synth.

Server Busy, the other program is busy, choose Switch To to correct this problem

After I see this it will sometimes start working again and other times I have to close sonar by going to task manager where I see sonar not responding
If I have to close sonar it wont load again without rebooting windows.

Can anyone tell me why this might be happening ?

I have not installed any programs or changed any hardware recently

Thanks to all

Norrie

Hi Norrie.

The only time I've ever seen anything like this is with a 32 bit plug running in 64 bit Sonar - I think it might be a bit-bridge message/error.

Could this apply to your situation?

Norrie,

You don't have to reboot Windows if this happens....the reason that X1 won't load again is usually
because, despite the fact that you've closed the program, it is still "hanging" in memory...

If you hit "Ctrl" "Alt" "Del" and bring up the task manager and click the "processes" tab, you will scroll down
and see "SonarPro.exe" still under the processes list...if you click that and hit "end process" this will remove Sonar from memory and allow you to reload the program...

Just an alternative to having to "Shut Down" to clear the memory..

Also, Norrie, make sure you have "AutoSave" turned on...

That way, when and if this happens, at least you won't lose ALL the work
you've done...

Thanks for the Reply's Guys. @ Bristol - I have only seen it happen with 64 bit plugs I don't really use any 32bit or at least at the moment

@ cclary - Thanks I will remember to do that it takes under a minute to re boot my computer so ts not a lot of waiting just frustrating when this happens.

I should also have said that I have seen this happen twice now on a black project from start up.

It's a bit of a strange one and I will go log a Ticket about it.

It's almost like another application is open and is saying to Sonar "Sorry -  can't do that"

@Bristol Thats exactly what I thought but I don't know how to narrow it down. I have nothing loaded so I really don't know why.

Hold that thought.  I will check my notes and try to get back to you.

You can choose a virtual server number similar to the way you can choose a device number for an external synth to avoid conflicts.  I cannot remember exactly where to do that but I have it in a service memo somewhere.

If all the soft synths hit the same virtual server number you will get this error.

Norrie, this is quite a pa9instaking task, but what I might consider doing is this, when you get this message again, go into task manager, under "processes" and make a note of all running processes (or do a screen dump and paste into Word or something)

Then do a Google search on EVERY single process to find out what it's  doing and whether it's a valid process or not.

It will also pay to fire up msconfig and go through the start up items, disabling anything that's not required.

Services is another thing to look at.

Hope this helps mate!
