I know there are some here that will complain about the price of upgrading to X2 no matter what the price is. Figured I would put things in perspective.

I own the full version of Pro Tools 9 and it would cost me $299 to UPGRADE to Pro Tools 10. That's not the "buy it new" price, that's the upgrade. I haven't done so because I am not working closely with folks using 10, use Sonar to mix whenever I can, and think $299 is a ridiculous price for this kind of application for an upgrade.

X2 actually looks like a better overhaul of existing functionality, addition of new features, and fix of bugs, so I'm far more interested in X2 than PT 10 anyway. I had to laugh when I heard people RAVING about the new Clip gain in PT 10- something other DAWS like Sonar, Cubase, etc. have had for more than a decade.

Peace,

I would complain if it's like .... $400 or something.... THAT would be absurd. But, Cakewalk has been really fair..... I can't see them trying to rape us for cash. I would imagine it'll be between 200-300.... just a guess. That's fair, in my opinion, for an upgrade....

Well I hope a decent pricing will include us expanded users :-) Since from what I can gather expanded is no longer a separate thing.

Well X2 isn't really a major upgrade or a complete re-build so I'm not expecting it to be too high priced.

If it is over $99 I am out, until they sweeten the deal. Just my opinion.
Shouldn't be more than that to improve on X1.
These prices are all speculation and I am sure they will have a great deal for us.

If X2 includes all the features of Expanded, so that the entire range is narrowed down to just Producer, Stdio & Expanded, then it's logical to assume there will be different pricing options depending on what you already have

e.g. $99 for Expanded customers, $149 for Producer, something along those lines

I'm guessing that any of the optional PC modules which you might have purcahsed will have to be installed separately, by the user, post-install as there's no way on earth they could work out a pricing strategy for the large number of possible combinations.

Just my thoughts.

PRICE - it doesn't really matter now, does it?

Thousands of us... (maybe millions!) will, indeed upgrade.
The few who flatly deny it based on price alone will sooner or later cave or live happily with what they currently own.

I, for one, will hope for a fair price.
My purchase history here is embarassingly long

What makes it worth it is the customer service policy in tech support.
Those folks must be hand picked for dedication, courtesy, concern ... the list goes on...

SO... HAVE MERCY on us Roland... you don't need a whole hog when you can get half an elephant...
just don't pull on our trunks too hard.

I will now put the upgrade out of my mind. I can't wait...

That seems logical, very fair, and something that CW would typically do.

Cakewalk has always been fair in regards to upgrade pricing. I don't think that there is any reason to expect that to change.
I also agree about the PT9-->PT10 $300 money grab that mainly constituted a bunch of 'features' that should have been free or no one really needed. (channel strip plugin?, AAX?) Those improvements are things that Cakewalk would have included in a free update.

I'll pay not a penny (or ha'penny for the UKers) over $1,000,000.00.
