Well, here's my guess...for what it's worth...
Expanded Users      $  99
Producer                  $149
Studio                      $249
Essential                  $349

Let's see if I win a Cuepy doll!!

e.g. $99 for Expanded customers, $149 for Producer, something along those lines

That would be reasonable :-)

I'm still not sure why they have gone back to the inclusion of other modules such as r-mix and amp sims, ect. I don't see what it actually brings to Sonar the DAW.

We went through all that crap prior to the intro of, I think, Sonar 8.0. Everyone was complaining they did not want the extra crap and extra cost so Cake did something that I thought was a really great compromise. They offered of a series of upgrades that included Sonar 8.0 but also had packages, with some really great prices, that included full versions of notation software or piano vst's, ect. There were several different packages. The user actually had the option of purchasing the things that were important to them and their particular DAW use.

I have spent a lot of money over the last year of upgrading to expanded, buying PC modules etc. I really don't want to pay more money for things I don't really need or want like another amp sim...

Hopefully the upgrade prices will be so great that it won't matter but we won't know that for a while, probably late September or sometime after.

While I don't want to pay too much, it doesn't really matter to me. Sonar is becoming such a great program for me that I will gladly pay whatever the rate is. I just want it to work right. I am very pleased with how Cakewalk slowed down the product cycle and really worked out alot of the problems. Remember, this upgrade should really be X3.

Here, here, LJB.  A bit of speculation is fun, but it is easy to get carried away.

And yes, it looks like Expanded is included in Pro now, which is what I said all along.  for those that paid for it, there should be a price knock-off, tho I bet Cake will run a special on the SSL Channel strip w/ all the included modules (extra, not included) at some point.

Anyway, if you are worried about pricing I suggest you go back to earlier versions and see what Cake charged, taking into account the time between updates.  This one is almost two years in the making.

I believe that Cake, like the Auto Industry, has gone to a
2 year marketing cycle plan....

Which is not a bad idea...IMHO

well a certain German rival doesn't ask for a yearly fee and go with the 2 year thing. so it's not too bad.. BUT them switching to august time is a bit of a header, everyone else put stuff out at that time.

I use a few things , and well all of these companies in theses times REALLY have to justify their upgrade costs.

I wanna hear from folk like Noel NOT the marketing folk (and that goes for other companies also) .. the classic line being (and this goes for a VAST amount of pro audio companies) it includes "amazing thing" and in the small print SE or LE version..

yet another product entered the pro-audio arena of late.. so that'll mix things up no doubt.

Well the truth is, there's a lot of competition out there for music recording software. So a high price will definitely drive away sales to the lower price options. A fair price though will retain customers and may even add some new ones. Sonar is a very high quality product, and Cakewalk has a long history of supplying reasonably priced software which is great bang for the buck. So I'm not too concerned, but I am curious to what the prices will be.

Bring it on, sooner the better !!!
