I have loaded about 59 minutes of a live show my band performed on Sonar Home Studio 6 XL. The last song is one I wanted to isolate and make an MP3 out of for demo purposes. I have read the provided book but just don't get it...old age setting in I suspect. What markers do I place on the track waveform and how do I set the begin and end markers...then highlight some way to isolate for an MP3 conversion. I have been doing voice over MP3 conversions fine but I don't know how to just take a section of the 59 minute show and create a single with the editing tools in Sonar 6 Home Studio XL. Anybody feel like trying to teach this old dog a new trick. PLEASE Help if ya can. I'm soooooo stuck and frustrated.

Cut and paste usually works. Put your mouse pointer at the start of the clip, hold down ALT and click and hold to select the section you want. Then paste it into a new project.

Hi Boltman50 - As one who shares your age issues with the book (!), this is what I do. Create a new project, add an Audio Track and import the band performance to that track. Position the mouse cursor at the start of the track (ie. on the number 1 on the top of the track pane), hold down the ALT key, press and hold down the left mouse button and then slide the mouse to the right to select all the bars you don't want. With those bars selected, click on Edit / Delete (on the menu bar at the top). A pop up box then opens. If you look at the bottom of the box, one of the options is "Delete Hole". Click that box (I then click every other box as well - what the heck, it's free!). Then click "OK" and the section of the Audio you selected is erased on the screen, the part you want is shifted to the beginning and you are left with what you want to keep. You then export the audio track to a new file. Don't worry about not getting it right the first time - I didn't! - (making changes and deletions to an audio track in HS does not change the main band performance audio file on your computer). So you can always go to Edit / Undo delete to start again. Hope this helps.

You can also simply select the portion in timeline and export it to wav, then convert to MP3, or if you have the MP3 encoder of SONAR, export directly to MP3. The former way is more recommendable than the latter, IMO.

One fluent way to separate the songs of a long recording is also:

Select a song and drag it to a new track, name the track accordingly.
Do this to every song and then you can export them to separate wavs in one go.
Unfortunately you'll need to rename the tracks after export.

Hmmm..one thing: Is it a multitrack recording or a stero track? That last suggestion of mine is only for a stereo track.

Or use the Split tool. Looks like a little pair of scissors above the track view.
Click that then click the track just before the last song begins. That will seperate that song from the others by cutting the clip at the point you clicked.
Turn off the Split tool then click on the clip. It should turn black.
Then go to File at the top. Select Export>Audio and send that clip to your music folder or through the Cakewalk mp3 converter (if you have it).
Once it's in your music folder, convert to mp3 like you normally do (unless you used the CW mp3 converter).
Welcome to the forum.

Make a copy of the file before you play around with it just to be safe as you're learning the process.
