Hi, My computer doesn't want to play all the concert band for which I composed music, my CPU usage level is very near 100% !!! So, to hear my music, I muted the trumpets trombones and all the percussion. Do you think that, now that my editing is finished with the woodwinds, I could make a audio track containing all the woodwinds sounds, so that I mute the midi tracks and can manage editing for brass and percs ? How could I do that, how can I proceed ? Hope you understand what I mean. Maybe that could be a way of finishing that piece, before changing my computer ... Thanks for your help. Alex

Go through each Midi track in turn and freeze the synths.

Sorry but what do you mean ? Do I have to do this before making an audio file or is it the way of making it ? I'm not very familiar with this, usually I only let all in MIDI and make a single Wave for final work. Thanks for your help.

Read the help menu on freezing tracks for a good explanation of how it works.

Freezing the synth will convert all of the Midi associated with that synth into audio and place an audio waveform in the track.

You need to do this for each synth that's driving your project.

When you've done them all you'll find your CPU usage is a lot lower and you'll be able to export your entire project

In each Mid track, you'll find a little snowflake icon next to the M/S/R buttons - this is the Freeze icon. Click it.

If you are only using MIDI, save it as a CWP file to a USB drive and it will open easily on any other computer running Sonar. As long as you still use the same soft synth's it will sound the same.

Thanks very much, I found it ! It was difficult because I live in France, my Sonar is in french language and they didn't translate freeze like they should have ... Si right click on the track then freeze and it's ok. I might be able tomorrow to add my percussion to my concert band, at last ! Thanks again Alex

So, I managed to freeze some tracks but that's worse !!! Before, my CPU usage level was very near 100 % and the music stopped, now, it's the hard drive's level who goes 100 % (of course, that's a lot of audio files I suppose). Is there any issue ? I ordered a new computer (Intel I7 processor 16 GB RAM and WIN 7 64 bits), but it's not home yet ...

If you have a new pc on the way then it might be a good idea just to leave everything as it is for now, use the time between now & when it arrives to do some tidying up.

  1. Backup all your Projects
  2. Go through your plugins - decide which ones you'd like to keep  - this will in part be determined by your intention to go fully 64 bit or not
  3. Gather together all your serial numbers, registration codes etc
Now, give us a bit more spec on your new machine.

  1. Laptop or Pc?
  2. Hard drives - number of/speed/capacity
  3. Interface/soundcard
  4. Sonar Version?
