Working on a project that has already had many tracks of vocals recorded. Came in today to put the last couple of tracks on, and the delay between the actual voice and the voice coming out of the headphones was huge. I had to pull the fader down and take the headphone off one ear to record. All that has changed in this track is that I have frozen or bounced some instruments so I am working with all audio tracks. This should be less CPU load, not more. Any ideas? This is not going to work. Thanks.

Weird. What is your hardware monitor telling you? Maybe some RAM borked out.

If something like this happens to me, I can usually trace it to a convolution reverb.  Have you recently added Perfect Space or similar?
 
If so, disabling it does the trick.  I believe some other effects that use "look ahead" can do this.

Beepster, Thanks for replying. While projet is running, CPU = 0% to 7% and memory is 3.87 out of 12. jb101, You may be on to something. This is the first time I used Perfect Space. My mics are put up now, but I will kill Perfect Space tomorrow and try to cut a test vocal. Thanks.

I struggled with this for ages when trying to track guitars through GP5 and Amplitube3.  I knew my PC was powerful enough, and the CPU always looked barely used.  I had started to think it was a problem with the Windows7 drivers for my interface.  Killing Perfect Space stopped the latency issue in its tracks...
 
Now, I tend to use something like Pantheon LE if I need reverb on during tracking, and replace it later with Perfect Space or Reverberate.  Or i just turn them off whilst recording.  I guess you could freeze them instead, I'll try later.

I'm guessing it's Perfectspace - I believe Convolution reverbs can generally add latency given the associated math with their processing.  Personally, whenever tracking, I disable most (if not all) effects to remove as much processing latency as possible - when in situations where having reverb during tracking is key, I'll use a low-overhead reverb (not a convolution) just for tracking and add in more lush / heavier processing reverbs during mixing.

Its got to be an effect in your signal chain or your sound card buffer settings. Or it could be both of those. It can be anything else
