This is the reference.  Us older folk in the US are quite familiar with it.

Hi,

This may not sound right, but here goes. This is a "take" on a famous mystic and his words in one of his books, btw!

Dear Duke

Deciding to be a musician or an artist, is not the same as wanting to be a fireman, or a teacher or a mechanic, when you grow up. Learning and being a part of the arts, can be the most frustrating of life events, and a good source of bad moments that will likely take a toll on your personal life. On the other side, it can also be very exciting, when/if things click and you find yourself with the veritable 15 minutes.

There is, however, one thing I would like to state. This is not about you wanting to be this or that or this or that. This is all about who you are and what you are, and what you love and want to do, and not look back in your life and regret that you did not take that step and you spend your time kicking the dog and the kids now because of it. This is about ... you ... look in the mirror and make the call ... if you can't, you are already dead inside anyway, whether killed by mom and dad, or girlfriend or wife does not matter ... you're already dead.

And if you're dead, trying to become a "musician" or an "artist", is the worst thing you can try. You might even consider washing dishes at a restaurant. (grin!!! smile !!!)

Good luck in your endeavor as a musician. You will need it! But I would not suggest my child to follow a music career if they were not 1000% in it, and at that point I would help the best I can and know how!

With care and luck

All of that said, if you're already dead, then you probably can become a famous zombie actor in Hollywood!  They're all the rage right now.

Dear Duke,

You're friend is delusional. But make no mistake, all musicians are delusional.

Be happy he's not busking all day and leaving you cramped up in that musky old apartment (I assume he lives in an apartment, unless it's a van down by the river).

Give him one more year and then decide if it's time for you to go back to the "shelter" where at least you can see your old friends (or the ones still alive).

Abby

Good One ...
incidentally I still own the van I lived in when I was homeless ..had it for 20 years so far ...

Dear Abby,

I have a "friend" who thinks he needs to own every major league plugin.

WTF?

Bapfused.

Last year I tried so hard to go there . I didn't even make it out of the minor leagues . Then my wallet went on a hunger strike ...

I enjoyed what you wrote

I started this thread primarily for the comic relief ...

The truth is I am already what I have always wanted to be A Musician .
I Would like to find a way to share it with the World and leave something behind before it is my time to do a
Snagglepuss and leave this world

Hi,

Very nice Kenny ... don't worry about leaving something behind ... it will be there and you might not even know it!

As for leaving the stage ... I guess I will be one of those that will die with his boots on, so to speak. I don't see how I can 'escape" myself and leave the stage ... it would kill me. However, I do not think of it as a "stage" at all.
