Send her to the U.S. for a few days and she'll understand.  I get so annoyed at how many people (mostly young ones) feel they deserve to get paid when they do so little to earn it...

Plenty (not all though) like that in the UK too Craig. The Eastern Europeans put us to shame at times, their work ethic is completely ingrained.

The following experience I had in a coffee shop recently is a classic example of the work ethic sadly prevalent among young people today.

Coffee shop girl: "Hi, what can I get started for you?"
Me: "Can I get a small dar...."

*turns around and starts chatting to her friend*

So rather than cause a scene - which believe me I am THIS close to doing - I let it slide.

Me: "Can I get a small dark roast please"
Coffee shop girl: "Sure! Let me get that for you."

She then turns around and walks TWO FEET to the coffee machine, a journey of approximately one second.

Coffee shop girl: "Did you say a light coffee?"
Me: "Dark roast."
Coffee shop girl: "Large, right?"
Me: "Small."

Marvellous

Pogles' Wood is one of my earliest televisual memories mate, alongside Tales of the Riverbank, Andy Pandy, Woodentops...

It all seems a lifetime away now .

Mind you, I was a bit too young for Muffin The Mule....

I still can't believe that was legal back then

(Sorry for hijacking your thread James)

I had to think about this one ...

"
  • Being sure to start touching your bag 15 minutes before your station, so the person in the aisle seat is fully prepared for your exit
"

Me too. Apparently not what I thought initially:

A guy on my dart team is named Marc.  He went into a coffee shop recently and the girl asked what his name was to which he replied "Marc with a 'C'" so, when he got his cup, there it was in big letters: "Cark."

Ordinarily I'd think that was a joke. But these days......
