  • Slicing at wrong times?

This is a new one for me.  I have a feeling I've hit a shortcut key that's turned on an option I'm unaware of.

I move the Now time to a position on an audio clip, hit "S" for slice, and it slices it.... around the beginning of the clip.  Not anywhere even close to my 'now' marker/position.
Every clip behaves the same.  Seems to slice at the same duration of time from the start of whatever clip I'm slicing up.

Anyone ever see this?  I've not until now haha

Thanks!

Check your snap settings.

Yeah I do recall seeing something like that a few times and I'm 95% sure snap was turned off... I must have gotten around it somehow so I can't remember any more... I was using ALT+CLICK instead of 'S' though. I post back if I see it again...

Sounds like you have inadvertently entered 'enhanced' mode. Press 0 on the numeric keypad to get in and out of it.

That's always a symptom of that - splitting at some seemingly random point - but if you look closely there'll be a small vertical marker at that time point on one of the tracks.

Strange, this actually happened to me for the first time today as well. I just restarted Sonar and it stopped but I'm not sure what caused it.

It happens to me, too.
We have very large project of 10 - 20 hours. Splitting by time 10 (h):00:00 may cause a split by 03 (h):00:00. 7 hours away from the slitpoint.
Closing the project end re-open solves the problem.

Of course, the first thing I checked was my snap settings.  I turned it on and off, and the slice still happened at the same spot every time.

The slice happened, for example, 1 second from the beginning of whatever clip I sliced. Every time no matter where the 'now' marker was.

Also, I pretty "O" to make sure I wasn't in offset-mode before I came on here.  No luck.

I am 90% sure I restarted Sonar last night and the issue was still happening upon re-starting.  Restarting Sonar is often on my list of 'fixes' for strange issues like this.  Perhaps I should restart my system.

Hopefully when I open things up today the problem has 'solved itself'.  Otherwise I'll slip edit my way around or something in order to get things done.
Thanks for your input everyone :)

Honestly, I'm not kidding, press 0 on your numeric pad then try splitting somewhere, press it again to get out of it. I'll almost guarantee that's the problem.

Is the S function the same as the scissors that split clips?  I have had trouble with the scissors int he past—suddenly stop working.

turn off the snap to settings so that you can place the cursor and the split where you want. I believe you can right click to set the split in a window numerically as well....

also zooming in will be very useful. but turn off the snap to settings first.
