Hello. I downloaded a re-mix kit from I-Tunes and ran into this problem while trying to get things started. Here is basically what I did. They came as MP4 files, so I converted them to WAV. The speed is 128 BPM, so I set my project temp to that, then added the separate parts. I created a drum map and a bass drum on beats 1,2,3,4. I checked the original drum WAV and could see that the beats were consistantely lined up with the drum wav. However when playing it, my drum is ahead of the beat by about 1/16 or so. But it is consistant. In other words, the beat doesn't drift as it would, say, if the BPM was off. I moved the MIDI drum track (to the right, adding time before it) so that it is offset by about 1/16, and that seems to work. But it doesn't "feel" right. I think that there is a much better way to do this other than guessing. Any help appreciated. Regards, Lindy

What synth/sampler are you using to add the extra beats?

One possibility is that you need to enable/disable delay compensation for the VSTi that is providing the kick drum, although that seems unlikely as the MIDI is occuring after the audio.

It is also possible that the conversion from mp4 to wav has altered the audio - some algorithms insert silence or mute the initial several milliseconds of audio. Have you zoomed in as far as is actually possible on the audio track to see if the audio lines up with the beat? You can zoom quite a bit.

The only time I've had an issue with that large an offset, a sixteenth of a beat, was trying to use the default wavemapper/wavetable output on a MIDI track. If you haven't assigned the MIDI to a VSTi or external synth that could also be the problem.

the midi track came from the default settings when i added the session drummer synth. i am looking at what you said about the conversion from mp4 to wav.

so I converted them to WAV. The speed is 128 BPM

Who said this? This may not be accurate. did you look at it to see if its resally 128BPM. It could be 128.2 or 128.4

good point. the remix says that it is 128 bpm. i didn't trust it until i tried it (because i had worse problems in acid). the offset is totally consistent throughout the music. it doesn't drift at all. i can of course adjust the audio to "shave" some time off the beginning. i'm asking because i didn't expect to have to do this. thanks . OK, so you're using Session drummer. You could "Freeze" the MIDI track to render it to a wave file and then zoom in really close to confirm it's off the beat compared to the Timeline. If that's the case then you should try using another synth like TTS-1 or something to see if the lag is occuring on all VSTi's or just Session Drummer. That will help you isolate the problem and then it's easier to solve.

Since you said the MIDI drum is occurring -after- the sampled one it doesn't sound like the problem is with the loop itself or the conversion.

I should have picked up on this before I wrote the other post.

If the MIDI is ocurring -after- the audio then shaving time off will only make it worse. If in fact the MIDI is occuring -before- the audio then it is possible there is extra space at the beginning of the loop that should not be there, possibly from the conversion.

The reason I'm confused is you said moving the MIDI track to the right, which would make it occur "later" not "earlier", seemed to help but you also say "my drum is ahead of the beat". Can you clarify: is the drum triggered by MIDI occuring too soon or too late compared to the loop? I'm obtuse at times.

It appears to me that if I cut 00:00:00:05 (H:M:S:F) from the beginning of the audio tracks then it synchs up and stays that way as long as the project tempo is 128 exactly. Not the best solution, imo, but it works. Thanks for the help from everyone. -Lindy
