Is there a way to connect an Audio Interface and a MIDI controller to the computer at the same time? I cannot do it directly into the usb ports of the computer because it would cause it to crash and my audio interface has no MIDI input, so is there an alternative or will I have to buy an interface that does have MIDI inputs?

Your system is crashing when you hook it up VIA USB? That is not right at all. What are your computer specs and what is the controller? And no I don't think you have any other options than to isolate the USB problem or buy a new interface. But really your controller should not be crashing the system. Check the manufacturers website for the correct and/or most up to date drivers. ie: The correct drivers for your OS (XP, Vista, Win 7, 32 or 64 bit), last updated drivers. Also you should check to make sure you have power management turned off. You USB ports might be going to sleep causing the crashes. For stuff like this technical details are imperative for the smart fellows here to be able to help you. Good luck.

Also if all your drivers are correct and your system meets the controller's system requirements contact the manufacturer for support. Does this happen with all programs or just X1? Does it crash the system without any programs running at all?

aaaaand are you using the correct type of USB port? If device requires 2.0 use a 2.0 port. 1.0 or 3.0 will generally cause problems.

what beep said ^^^

what you are trying to do should work fine.  Definitely post detailed computer/interface/controller specs, and a more detailed description of exactly what you do, how and when the crash occurs, and what messages are associated with it, there are a lot of folks here who should have some insight.  At this point, it sounds like a hardware/driver/config sort of problem.  We need details....

Ah I see. Yes, go to Korg's website and get the appropriate and latest drivers. DON'T use your onboard soundcard. Use the E-Mu. The MicroKey WILL work VIA USB with the correct drivers unless the device is faulty. Korg's can be a little finicky and their manuals are weird but if you follow them step by step and peruse the Korg forums you should be able to figure it out. The only thing that will prevent you from achieving your goals here is if your computer does not meet the specification requirements for the controller (so post your specs) or if you do not read and follow the installation instructions for your device. I would completely uninstall the Korg stuff on your system and start from scratch following the manual and with the appropriate and most up to date drivers. Then in X1 be sure to learn how to properly select your controller within the Edit>Preferences menu. I know it's a pain but we all have to do it. Cheers and good luck.

And just to be clear when I said use the EMU instead of the onboard sound I meant in general. Not to plug the Micro Key into the EMU. The MicroKey should be plugged VIA USB directly into your computer. Not the interface. You CAN use an interface to do this if your device and the interface both have USB hook ups but that is more complicated and unnecessary so USB is the easier and probably better option.

Ok, I should have explained that in the controllers manual it says that no other USB devices should be connected to the computer while the controller itself is connected. So it is the actual controller that is the problem and not the drivers/computer etc. This is actually a warning message, and is completely general soI guess it regards any computer.

The Microkey? No... that can't be right. Go check out the Korg forums, dude. The answer will likely be there. This is just all very silly.
