Well your mix might sound a bit lop sided.
Like I said above - You might need to experiment.

Oh I see what you mean...yeah I can see where if one were to pan any of the instruments all left or right it wouldn't sound natural.

I'd say it depends on your preferences. Sonar is easier to automate. But I'll assume you're not planning to have your clarinet floating all over the stage :)

I'd say Kontakt just because it can all be saved as part of your Multi, so you can load it up and be ready to go with your standard orchestral template regardless of what else is in your project. But dragging a template from the browser would do the same if you made a Sonar template. Really, it's just how you want to work.

Sorry, guess that's probably not very helpful :)

OK, I was able recently to upgrade to Cinematic Strings 2 and have set it up in Sonar X1 as a Kontakt instance.

The panning part of my question has been answered. I'm still trying to figure out the depth part though, and I also would like to address stereo field width for each instrument.

So first, given that I have each of the string sections with it's own midi and audio tracks, I want to set up each with it's own depth (I assume through audio track reverb within Sonar?) and stereo width (not sure how to do this, GPO had a tool to adjust midpoint and width but I don't see anything like this in Kontakt, in which I'm a newbie, or CS2).

A little instruction from experienced hands is welcome.

By the way, I'm LOVING Cinematic Strings.

While waiting for responses, I did a little more digging and found some information about the Stereo Modeller fx available in Kontakt and using reverb to create spatial depth for orchestral instruments. I'm still open to input from users here.

John6448:  I recently watched the Groove3 video tutorial on midi orchestration by Ed Krantzberg.  In it, he had a section on creating spacial depth in orchestra placement by using this reverb technique.  It really does not provide a great deal more information than in the link you provide, but it confirms that this is how Ed handles spatial depth of different orchestra instruments.  Hope this helps with some confirmation of technique.
