  • X1 Studio... question about the channel strip eq vs. the identical Sonitus:fx Equalizer

Ok... in Studio, each strip has an Equalizer that can be turned on/off and editing it, it is apparent that this is actually the Sonitus:fx Equalizer. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using this built in channel eq instead of the corresponding vst?

It is the same thing therefore there is no advantage or disadvantage.

The only advantage to inserting the eq in the fx bin is the flexibility of being able to insert the eq in the fx chain in an order other than pre or post fx bin. Such as, compressor > eq > phaser or whatever combination you may want. Other than that it is the same.

I tend to EQ before compressing anyways (I have enough trouble cutting the right frequencies, so why compress em first!). You're right, though, it's good to have that flexibility.

Hmm. That actually brings up another flexibility advantage. The ability to insert multiple instances, for those who like to eq before (cut) AND after (boost) compression.
