  • Gate 'pops' on PC4K S-Type Expander/Gate ?

Hi folks,

I've been trying the PC4k Expander/Gate in gate mode, however the gate seems to make a 'pop' or 'click' every time it triggers either on or off.

Anyone else finding this with the Gate mode ?.

This seems to be consistent, but I wanted to check here before I log a support ticket.

I am running the most recent versions of everything (X1d expanded).

In "Gate Mode", I'm finding this totally unusable due to the pronounced 'pop/click' noises.

Run the same signal through a different gate plug and everything is fine, so it definitely seems to be the PC4k Gate that's making the pop.

Can anyone confirm/deny before I hit the problem reporter ?.

Cheers - Cliff

I have never really had any problems with the gate. I know there was an update to it that i downloaded separate from the the expanded installers. I think it was 1.1 maybe check your account and see if it is in there and give it a go. Sorry couldn't be of more help

I've also used it on a few occasions without any issues. Have also applied the update mentioned above (v1.01 I believe).

I bought this in May - I see on my account page that Version 1.01 is available for download effective today 7/24/12. I click the link and get a XML page file error. Wonder what that means in terms of if I already have the latest version installed. ?

Is there another way to check version numbers?

BTW - I got a few pops/click like sounds a couple of days ago when really driving attack time.

Yes, here (assuming you're on Win 7 (x64)):

  • C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\PC4kGate\PC4kExpGate_64.dll

Right click on the DLL to call up its "Properties" and then select the "Details" tab. Under "File Version", you should see "1.0.1.28".

  • Got it - Thanks! That works in Vista 64 as well.

I wasn't sure about Vista so that's good to know. And you're welcome!

Is that in expander or gate mode (click the "Gate", turns green) ?.

Expander mode works fine, but when I engage gate mode, I get a 'pop' when the input reaches the gateing threshold and it turns on.

The "Attack" is either fixed at 0.1 ms, or "Auto".
I've definitely got the latest update :-)

If the setting are set to "GATE MODE", fast-attack mode and fastest 10ms release I get a "click" sound on all transients too?
Are that you referring too as a "click sound"?

I wish they address this bad behavior as soon as possible.

    Thanks Freddie,

that's it OK.  I didn't have to go right down to 10ms for release, but you're onto it. Taking the release right down low makes it more obvious though simply because the gate triggers more often.

I'll file a problem report over the weekend, thanks for confirming :-)
