Is a giant step backwards!  I sure hope they restore it to AT LEAST where it was in 8.5.3!  ...how could this be so freakin' overlooked?!

...had a session today and embarrased myself by NOT being able to effectively tap a tempo so...  ...I'm over it now... ;)

If you're talking about setting the tempo with mouse clicks, it's still there... somewhere (meter/key dialog? EDIT: Make that Project > Insert Tempo) I don't recall because I do it this way:

Start the transport with the metronome off/muted, and count out a couple-few measures in your head. Stop the transport, and use Set Measure/Beat At Now (Shift-N) to tell SONAR what measure and beat that should be. I'll wager you get a much more accurate tempo that way than you ever would with the mouse-clicking deal.

P.S. If the project is empty you might have to disable Stop At Project End in order to be able to run the transport with Play. That, or do a dummy recording pass.

Although some may see it as a minor thing, this issue is huge for me.

When starting any new song, the first thing I do is try & set Sonar's tempo to match what I have in my head. Before X1, that was totally simple, because you could easily access the Tap Tempo feature immediately upon opening the program. To me, that was PERFECT, because I could quickly set the right tempo in Sonar and proceed with laying my idea down without a chance of having to fiddle with the program and possibly lose my idea.

Upon upgrading to X1, it took me awhile to discover that Tap Tempo still exists, but it takes a little more effort:
Choose Project > Insert Tempo Change to display the Tempo dialog box.
Tap a new tempo in the space indicated in the dialog box.
Admittedly, it's only a little more work than the way Tap Tempo was previously available, but it does take more time and frustrates me whenever I'm trying to quickly lay down a new song idea.

I like X1 a lot, but I can't proceed on any piece of new work without having to fumble with the new Tap Tempo arrangement and being reminded of Cakewalk's poor change.

The answer, my friend is blowin'in Shift-N, the answer is blowin' in Shift-N.

Or you can set up you own keybinding for Project > Insert Tempo (I don't think there's a default), and be done with it.

Yep, not as handy but took all of 20 seconds to bind a hotkey(s).  Alt+T (or similar/simpler) and it's there.  I don't like using the mouse so I Tab once to highlight Click here to to tap tempo and use the Enter key and done.

Hi. How could I find Registration Code please?

It's in your Cakewalk Store account, and should have been e-mailed to you as well when you purchased SONAR.

I haven't overlooked anything.  It's NOT as simple as it was in 8.5.3- the freakin' end!  The purpose of software is to automate stuff.  Two or three extra mouse clicks sure as hell AINT automating stuff- while it may not be a big deal to someone who uses this stuff part time- IS a big deal to me!  Especially when it used to be EASIER.  So I hope the developers realize it.
